When to get a pet focus item?

Greetings,

  Been reading through things and most of the info seems to be for the 60+ pets. Is it of any use to use a pet focus item on a lower level pet?

  I'm getting close to level 46 and my next pet. And being on FV I have the chance to buy a pet focus item. However if it doesn't " work" yet I'll invest in something different.

Nah, it's not worth it.  The pet focus items are only for the higher level pets.  Usually it's 59+ level pets for beastlords that can be improved via the focus effects.
