Title: I made a Beastlord on Quarm
Post by: Illiyana on July 18, 2016, 09:43:38 PM
Anyone else?  I have seen several Beastlords running around.  How has it been for you?  I have just been grinding out levels, but it sucks not having any money to buy spells.

I also made a beastlord on Quarm.  I work on him when I am not raiding.  He dinged 56 yesterday.  Ancient EQ secret: there is a city were you can go and kill the guards and the guards drop up to 25pp.  You will want to stick to the light blue guards if you are solo.  NOTE: the guards there have a HUGE aggro radius for other mobs on their faction.  My beastlord on Quarm is running with two mages and I box a druid.  With that group we can make 200-300pp for each group member in a couple hour session.  The exp is pretty good as well.  Faction...Iksar don't need no stinking faction.  Can you guess which city?

-Z-

PS  We are running LDON Tak missions to get points for a pet focus aug.  Coin is OK, exp is good, but without a real puller it can be dangerous.  With 2x mages and a beastlord we have enough pets and bst tanks to handle 4-5 mobs.

PSS Forgotten Halls is a waste of time as far as experience goes.

Halflings make a satisfying "waa" sound when you hit them.

Post by: Zorthaz on July 19, 2016, 06:54:07 PM
There are haflings to kill in this city, but there are also barbarians, humans, elfs, and dwarves.  None of them are on their home cities' faction.  I was completely amazed to find the zone completely empty of players when we went there.  By now you have figured out that this is not any starting city for any of the playable races in EQ.

What times are you playing on Quarm?

I usually login around 11:30pm Mountain.  I am playing a Barbie named Jarkeld, and currently 58.  It has been fun revisiting old school zones to level the old fashioned way.  So far, we have done grinding in Veksar, Sebilis, and Droga. One of my friends got a Shared Adventure III, so we have not wanted to waste it running from LDoN to LDoN.

/claim  is your friend.  You should be able to claim 2 Shared Adventure III potions.  You can hit the EQ market place and get a complimentary adventure potion for free.  Also don't forget to /veteran to get your vet AA on your toon.  What classes did your friends play?  It might be nice to be able to combine or mix and match folks to get through the MPG trials.  Hopefully one of your friends is playing a cleric ;-)

Our group consists of Me, a Druid, a Necro, and a 3 boxer playing a Necro, a Mage, and a Cleric.  I end up being the tank, too bad my taunt stinks.

You should have your pet taunt and heal your pet.  If you need aggro use incapacitate.  BTW I dinged 57 yesterday.  We also recruited another freind who is playing a Paladin.  He dinged 52 last night.  Do you know how long we have to complete the MPG trials?  Is it only a few months?

We do have my pet and an earth pet taunting but when we get adds or large pulls, the pets aren't the best at it, so I run around slowing and nuking.

Quarm will only be up for 3 months, then they move the toons to a different server, to perhaps do another similar event.

I'm running around with a 58 bst myself.
Got alot of the exp in grieg's end.
Pet is weaker tank than self tbh but we got good pet heals..or let it regen out of combat between pulls when soloing (saves mana).
Kei helps alot and remember to get the loy spell from gulf of gunthak :)

Are you doing GE solo or do you have a group you are running with?  I agree the 54/56/58 pets don't tank the best, but with full BST and DRU buffs they do ok.  Getting a dmg shield on the pet really ups their DPS since they get hit so much ;-)

We tried Noble's Causeway last night and it was a bit tough for 58/59 level toons.  We could kill them if solo but I think the effort vs. reward was too low.  It took us quite a  bit of time to kill the mobs, while if we would have kept to easier mobs we would have killed them faster and more often, increasing our xp over time.

Mostly grouped but can manage solo too with kei and clr buff.

What is a good range-slot item for Beastlords in this era?  I went and got the Goranga Idol just to have something in the slot, but there must be something better.
Title: Re: I made a Beastlord on Quarm

There was a 30 AC range that dropped from a named in Velks.  I gave it to the Paladin since he tanks.  My BST dinged 62 over the weekend and mu DRU dinged 63.  I stopped and got AAs for Hobble and Paragon.  Have you noticed the spell vendors only have spells up to 65?  Now we are going to have to start farming runes for 65+ spells.

We do have access to tribute so I have Aura o Clarity 5 and Eyes of the Hunter running.  Mana is a real issue in long grinds with 2 casters.  We have recruited a bard and hope to add a necro to our guild.  Exp seems to really slow down post 60.

Yeah we saw the spell issue, I guess we all will have to start farming named in OoW.  I am only 61, I spend some time doing non-grinding, like starting the Epic, getting the Goranga Idol, farming cash for spell, etc.

It looks like Mana Preservation V may not be attainable at 70th level unless you raid, and Summon's Boon is either the Takish-Hiz weapon aug, or off a 70th level mob in Bloodfields.  I remember the aug took me forever the first time.  We tried a Tak adventure at 60th and got 34 coins, when you need 760, the is gonna get boring.

Great minds think alike: I started working on 1.0 yesterday.  I got the copper medal of war from Grimling Forrest and completed the scout battle in Feerott.  I could not find any of the other scouts up.  There is another pet focus available to groupers in OOW and it comes RS - Balancer Relik  http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=33027

Good catch on the EM item, I also recall there being a good AC aug in RS, but I forget who drops it.

I got two more scouts completed and dinged 63.  My Druid dinged 64.  GE can be a cruel mistress when you forget which rooms contain raid mobs. ;-)

lol!  I have so far been unsuccessful finding the Scouts up and having friends ready to go.  We also took a few nights off to try Death Death Death back on our home server.  We can get to Phara Dar, but then run out of time.  We are only 62 and hunting in Nobles' Causeway so we can get a jump on the Runes.

My Druid and I dinged 66 over the weekend.  Our Paladin tank dinged 67 and with a pickup cleric we were able to handle the WoS camp closest to the NC zone line.  We successfully took down named, other then Shadowhunter, and managed to score two runes for the group.  One minor (66) and one lesser (67) dropped off the named.  At 66 GE is pretty much all light blue, but still OK exp if you can get a fast killing group.

I got lucky last night and was able to get 3 Scouts done, Ferrott, Lesser Fay, and Stonebrunt.  I think we have 4 Lesser Runes, but are still only 62.

Okay, Flawed Defiant is getting old, have you started getting any new equipment yet?  I was hoping for a Waning Light Katar, but I am not sure doing the PoP progression is a good use of time if there are other BST items we can get in OoW and or GoD.  Riftseeker's Sanctum is looking good, but we would need to be closer to 70 first.

Still using the gear they gave us.  The best gear we can get drops in the MPG trials.  1.5 would be awesome if you could pull it off.  I haven't had anything drop that was better then what I am wearing so far.  I think the earring that dropped in WoS was an upgrade for the casters.  I still have an empty range slot to fill.  All of the gear that drops is being turned in for tribute and I am running max mana regen, max accuracy, and max AC.

my BST and DRU both dinged 67 last night.  My luck at getting named to spawn just stinks.  I haven't checked out GE at 67, but I am willing to bet it is going green.

PS. ...all done with the first 6 scouts.  Now waiting in Timorous Deep for the scout to spawn.

I am currently half way through 64.  We can get the named to spawn, they are just being stingy with the Runes.  Last night I got a RANGE slot item from NC, Blazing Fire Crystal:  http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=31898 (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=31898)

I have now got 4 of the 6 Scouts, I am still waiting on Permafrost and SoNH.

GE is still light blue at 67.  Parsed my logs to see my DPS.  With the original weapons, 12/20 HTH and 10/19 pierce, and the original 26% haste belt, pet with mage weapons and haste mask, was averaging 172 DPS with an average 82 dmg hit.
This is with no offensive AA. and the data was compiled over several hours of fights in GE.

I upgraded my main hand to 17/23 with a 70 dmg proc and moved the 12/20 HTH to the off hand.  I looked at the parse for the new setup and I am now averaging 173 DPS with an average hit of 84 dmg.  The data was for several hours in GE.  I think this second set of data might be tainted a little bit as I was doing all the pulling and since the group was killing faster I was having longer pulls getting mobs.  If I took any dmg on the pull, the time I was running back to the group (spamming pet back off) was added to the fight time with no damage to the mob being done.

Mana regen is such a PITA...one tip I will pass on is before I leave POK I buff which usually empties the mana bar and then you have to sit in POK and wait for it to refill.  Right before I start buffing I pop POS.  Since you ar still in POK, the POS buff doesn't fade until you leave the zone.  It helps to speed up the recovery from buffing and getting to the EXPing.

I bought the rss claws for 5k in the bazaar..
Mainly soloing GE still for AAs at level 65.
I put tribute on mana regen but it seems to cap us at 15 mana regen worn cap unless you bought some expansive mind AAs.
Exp is still decent...just gonna keep grinding AAs a while myself.
Our poison dot is great dps when soloing but abit mana heavy :)
Thinking of trying out infected paw zone next.

Nice score the the RSS claws. They were priced around $20K last I checked.  I finished the Epic TD fight(s) and completed the item collections.  I am hoping to knock out the final fight this week.

I hit 67 last night.  Our group has been farming named in Nobles' Causeway for spell runes.  Our group is a Beastlord, Druid, Necro, Mage, Cleric, and Enchanter.  Thanks to KEI and Beastcrack we don't have mana issues, but with all these spell casters, we need lots of runes.  I chose to forgo 66th level spell runes for the others to use, but I am going to need 3 of the 67th level ones so I can get SV. I have been holding off working too much on AAs so I could get to 68 as soon as possible and get the pet spell, then I will switch to AAs.

As for weapons, I am still using Defiant, except for 2HB, I was able to get a Redhorn Mace from NC:  http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=31547 (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=31547)

Minor Muramite Rune - Level 66
Lesser Muramite Rune - Level 67
Muramite Rune - Level 68
Greater Muramite Rune - Level 69
Glowing Muramite Rune - Level 70 Normals
Ancient Muramite Rune - Level 70 Ancients

Beastlord
66 - Healing of Mikkily, Chimera Blood
67 - Muada's Mending, Focus of Alladnu, Spiritual Vitality
68 - Growl of the Beast, Spirit of Alladnu, Spirit of Irionu
69 - Spiritual Ascendance, Feral Vigor, Glacier Spear, Feral Guard
70 - Sha's Legacy, Spirit of Rashara, Ferocity of Irionu, Festering Malady
Ancient - Savage Ice

Epic complete!!!  Put a DoT aug in the off hand claw and now self buffed I am getting 190% haste.  I also dinged 68 last night and actually stayed up late enough to get 40% into level.  The plan is still to get to 70 then go 100% AA.

We managed to get one, minor spell rune for the group last night.  I hit 69 and managed to get 20% into level.  It is sad how fast the OOW named eat up the level 64 pet. The prism skin recourse didn't become available for pets until PoR.  The plan is to hit 70 this weekend and grind out some more runes.

As for Spell Runes, I have used 0 Minor, 3 Lesser, and and 2 of the 68th level ones. We have moved our group to Ruined City of Dranik for a change of pace.  Most of the other drops still are not as good as Flawed Defiant, but I did manage to get 2 good items out of it

Very nice weapon...I always love the lifetaps.  Hit level 70 on Friday night and have been grinding AAs and trying to get runes to drop.  Lots of named and no runes, but I did get a 10 ac aug.

I got another new weapon, this time from MPG.  The named is a pain to get to, all the way on the north edge of the map by the Projection of Mind.  Note, the Hammer is NOT No Drop.  We killed the named several times and it never dropped the hammer for me, I camp for the night and a friend got 3 of them, giving me one:

Yeah, we are using the no "no drop" stuff to our advantage.  For instance we have 4 pet classes in the group. after a wipe we pass around the Sphere of Swirling Flame (pet focus) when we summon our pets.  So far I have won the roll on one minor rune and got the pet heal.  We had a cleric join our guild and we are trying to get him leveled up.  We took him to PoJ and did the trial of execution and got him flagged for PoV and PoS.  He managed to ding 57 last night.

On the AA front I have gotten Feral Swipe, Ambidexterity, and 4 levels of Beastial Frenzy.  I also did the first few levels of Finishing Blow to speed up the solo AA rate.  The 21K finishing blows actually save me mana.

I made 70th level a couple nights ago, and thanks to farming the named in MPG, I was able to get Spiritual Ascendance, and my 70th level pet.

I do not have much in the way of AA's yet, but now I am going full AA.

We did spend  one evening in Infected Paw, and a nice Beastlord let me loot a Haste item:

Has everyone completed all the group trials?  I have noticed it is getting harder and harder to get MPG trial groups together.  If you get a group that has to learn the event you could easily wrap up 4-5 hours getting a single trial done.  On one trial we went through 4 tanks, 3 clerics and 1 rogue, to get the right synergy to finally beat the trial.

We have only completed Fear so far.  We tried Destruction last night and I think we have a DPS problem for that trial.  We didn't do too bad for our first run at it, we were at 2 minutes left when I had 3 on me and dropped, then everyone else fell soon after. I think tonight we are gonna try the one with the chests.

Our group is currently BST, NEC, MAG, CLR, ENC, and DRU.  I think we would be better of using a DPS class rather than the DRU, but that is my wife, so..... ;)

You are aware that the named are 1700+ hitters right?  The named in the chest mission powers up as he get closer to death.  I think he was a 2500 hitter by the end.  We were lucky we had a SK tank that took him out at the end with HT.

I always love the non-standard groups that work.  I did the trial of destruction with two SKs, one PAL, one Druid, one Mage, and of course one BST.  The Druid didn't have any healing spells past level 64.  I am not sure what was going on that night because normally you can't find a tank.  I was actually turning away more SKs with 3 tanks already in the group!
