Just for fun - Do you wish you had the ability to name your pet.. so their name shows above their head instead of generic "Beastie's Warder"?
I like being able to say "my pet" and not have to regress to the old days of.. "My pet... *looks around* *types in pets name for this hour* Jobaboner"
*minutes later*
"My pet still doesnt have the buffs"
Buffer: "Oh shoot, I buffed Joboboner! not Jobaboner!"......
then there's the whole "Sorry, buffed the WRONG Jobaboner" -- I had one group where we had 3 pets with the exact same name (was bored at frenzy ghoul camp, when we noticed we had 2 pets with the same name we tried for the 3rd til we got it)
So, for simplicity I love the <name>'s warder... but if I wern't such an efficency pain in the rear end I'd love to name my pet -- I love the role-playing aspect of it, but EQ simply lacks role-playing now...
hehe nah I don't mean randomly generated names..
I mean we should be able to name our pets and have the name stick!
like Killer, or Fluffy, or .. whatever you want it to be
:D
I was just saying as an example of the past...
Would require me to 'forward' the name of my pet to the buffer, where as right now I can say "my pet" and they -know- the name of my pet :-)
And not too many 'unique' pet names here either ;-) Fluffy being probably the most common name :-P
I take that back, there are a lot of unique names, I just doubt it would hold true if every beastlord named their pet... I know them trolls have mostly all unique pet names :-) but vah shirts :-/ heh
I think it would be great for RP guilds to be able to name warders for the beastlords. I also think it would be uber if we could choose a pet skin for our pet, making them different colors than the average.
Wolf is Wolf either way. But yeah I think it would be cool to have his name above his head:)
Gussy would love to have her own name so the gnomes and halflings would know exactly who was munching them.
I've always thought that I should be able to change "warder" to a name so that every where is said "Felidae`s warder" it would instead say "Felidae`s Cutey". For practical reasons it's nice having the my name there still but would like to be able to name the warder. For that matter would like to see "Merlin`s Jobakar" too over just Jobakar.
Muh warder's name is "Garbage". I wanna see that above his head.
The only problem I see with this is it would be subject to the abuse that people do with Their PC names, I can not stand names that are 100% idiotic, surnames not as much, but stuff like Itank Giveuexp makes me mad.
Frisky would love to have Frisky float above him, instead of Alelo's Warder
Everyone I know already knows her as Jingles.. If anything, it would reduce any sort of confusion. :D
I dunno.. Kitty's already fairly sensative about me calling him that in public.. while I'd certainly like it I doubt he'd be too happy and we all know how disgruntled warders can be.
I call my warder my doggy, or just dog. I wouldn't mind if it said Hrann's dog I guess. *shrug* hehe
Everyone in my Guild or whom I've played with know my Warder's name... M1-A4 Main Battle Cat!
Pasht
and people know her as Pasht if they group with me regularly
Keriayna's Warder
<Pasht>
would be kinda cool
~D~
Would be cool for folks to know how I mean when I talk about Scandlous. [/list]
Even people who don't know me catch on quick when I refer to Rakshasa (though it's funny to see them look around for a bit). Regardless, I would vastly prefer to be able to /petname him.
Idiotic names bug me too, but I'd put up with it to be able to name Rakshasa properly.
hehe....
there is a command to give your pet's name you know...
use it with my mage and his macroes....
it's %M
also, i would LOVE to be able to actually name Zeke, Zeke...
even if it were an AA ability to name our pets i would still be AOK with it
now being able to change our warder's skin, that's another story, and probably wouldnt happen, too much work on Dev's part i ahve heard
I would LOVE for people to know spike as SPIKE unsted of rr gater rules, your pet

that would be really awesome if you could change your warder's color .. back when the ldon augment changed our wolves to the color black, that was half the reason I purchased it right away!
but yeah, I could see how it would be hard for the dev's. I'll settle for being able to name him instead
Grits!
But not with brown sugar....
I call mine dog dog (from my shammy days of misc named pets), Steve-Dave (from Kevin Smith movies-mainly a joke between a friend and myself) and more recently F-bomb (like my f*&%ing pet won't listen to back off if I get hit when pulling...must get pet hold asap!).
Mahes...
LOLZ!!1!
I would love to name my gator Tiny, or Ugly, or GatorofDoom
Kiki would love her name to be shown over her head.
Jiji
I have always called my tiger Fido.
My tiger is Hobbes. And I always feel really old when people don't understand the reference.
Game on,
The Oneiromancer
That is sad, I toyed with the idea of calling mine Bill the Cat, but it is also lost on them.
I'd love to be able to name my pet. As for buffs, I've never had anyone in my raid actually try to click on my pet. I always have my pet targetted and the buffer does an assist. Much simpler that way. In groups, it's a double function key.
Hah! Bloom country rules (ack, phtth).
poor bill...I remember that song and I'm not even that old..
I think it's stupid personally. I do call mine Ben and everyone in the guild knows it, but I still wouldnt change his name if I were able. It's just too confusing to people. That and I have to agree with a previous poster, think of the names some of these morons would come up with. I see enough morons in RL and when I'm on, I don't need further evidence that there are even bigger ones here.
if i could name my pet i would want it so i could rename him so i could change his name over time i would probly name my warder "demonwings"
Names would be nice like static named....as in no matter how many warders you went through, it was always summoned with the assigned name.
I think I would like the option of coloring our warders better though. Would love to have a Black panther or a Snow Panther or a Leopard or something....as far as Vah Shir pets goes that is. :-))
I'm all for Iggles (de wondur gator) getting his own name, infact I'd be for the naming of all pets, of course with usual naming policies (assuming they might actually enforce 'em. However I'd use the tool for good and a small sparkle of "Role Playing" in this godless age of names like Cattzorz Clawzinatorlololol.
Turning EQ into a "Computer game" has ruined it far more than anything else, period.

It always has been, except for a golden age of 30 seconds about 20 minutes after production opened. Just occasionally when the moon is blue and the sun rises from the south the day name ends with u, and Pluto and Venus are aligned EQ is a role playing game for ... oh ... two seconds.
I'm sort of against a permanent name. My scaled wolf's name is Godzillette Mobcruncher, Zilla for short. A typical session goes like:
Me: <summon pet>
Guildmate: Zilla! Hiya babe
Me: She says hi
Guildmate: Doh...I'm not deaf
random_groupmate: ????
Part of the fun is that her name isn't set in stone somewhere. It's a shared fantasy, an inside joke. Every time a friend uses her name I know they are playing along with a gag of mine, not just reciting the obvious. A name above her head would be LESS fun, I think.
The other issue is individuality. The title above her head, "Bryc's Warder" is accurate, unique and constant, if somewhat anonymous. Everytime I summon her, she's the same wolf, not to be confused with any other. With changable names, you'd have situations like:
XXXX has been slain by Killer
Guild: "Who's Killer?"
BST #1: "That's my pet's name"
BST #2: "Mine too"
Guild: "I thought BST #3's pet was Killer??"
BST #3: "Nah, I got tired of it"
Naming you pet aint a good idea.. Think about why you want it, to be diff from everyone else.. so i name my kitty "killer" whats stopping anyone else haveing the name killer?? now what we do need is to change the skin color of the pet just like armor, that will be nice....
My bear is named George, I will love him and hug him annnnd.
what i like about the pet names now is, all you have to do is say buff my pet and its done.. with names youll have to say buff whatshisname pls.. just think its harded on other to know whos pet is whos.. even mag and all othe pet classes should have ther name on him..
I'm willing to put up with all that stuff to put Rakshasa's name above him. :p I already modded my health window to say his name instead of Kivuli's Warder
Name rules could be:
Max of 10 letters[/list:u]
Includes character 's warder on tag[/list:u]
IE...Killar, Jagze's Warder[/i][/list:u]
No one else can use the given name[/list:u]
Just some thoughts.
I would probably care, if I could ever get those @#$%! preserved chokidai vocal cords to drop. As it is, my croc will go on being referred to as the "Newt of DOOM!"
Maybe Mittens the scale wolf, would finally come when I call her dammit.

Actually, that's a really good idea. Let pets have two lines of text like guilded players do. One line says "Soandso's warder" and the other line has the actual name of the pet. Addresses many of the problems. Could even work for other pets, so you can see which one of the skeletons belongs to which Necro, for example, even if they don't pick their own name.
Game on,
I think naming the warder would be a good idea, and unique names won't be to hard to find. If you could actually change the color though that wpuld make it really unqie, a different color and a name.
Naming pet would be fun but I would still want Kitcat's Warder on top and name i choose in brackets underneath. Would be great fun to play round with colours on pet too!
Kiticat
65 Feral Lord
Puffbutt
Rajah knows who he is.
"Get in there Rajah and attack %t."
Group sees "Get in there Ranjah and attack %t."
:P
Would rather see color changes, since I already call my warder by his name... and the whole guild knows it... Skidmark, maim %T and make %P call for %P's mommy!!! :D
Sharky generally refers to his pocket croc as "Dog".
I mean to a troll, a croc is pretty much his dog (with sharp, nasty, pointy cruel teeth!).
Yes I'm an ogre and I refer to him as Mr. Bear most often :)
think one of the full house kids had a bear named Mr Bear, he was always dressed up in detective garb. *treanchcoat, hat*
I love Mr. Bear! :)
Ciao! Fremder
My Tiger is my best bud. he deserves to be recognized as a feral being in his own right. as far as skins. it would be infinitely nice to have a white tiger instead of bengal to match My coat, being that he is SUPPOSED to be tied to me by a bond not shared by many. but he looks like every other shir's pet :\. Sabrestorm should definitely be able to wear his name proudly.
Okay this is gonna sound crazy but I called my warder Junior till I got the 62 pet. He is now known in the guild as "The Warder formerly known as Junior". Yeah I'd like to be able to change his name. Running joke is at 66 his name will be Symbol...For those that don't get it he listens to Prince during med breaks.
Mine is and forever will be Spunky the Wonder Dog.
Sorry, must've just watched way too many cartoons as a child.
Would be nice to be able to "name" our warders since they supposedly are a lifetime companion unlike the SK skelly's or the mage's elementals or the necro's skelly's or the cleric hammers or the chanters illusions. Nearly all of those pets change over time or have a randomly generated name. The mages elemental pets change form depending on the spell cast. But they all get a named pet... why shouldn't we? Ok I forgot the druids and the shammies. I don't know what kind of pet they get.
Mine is named Sebastian, The BIG Cat (tm)
my tiggy was called Mack ever since she got bugged and was as tall as the main bank in pok =x people that asked me why Mack, i told them "big as a mack truck" and they'd nod. :p
i dont know i might jsut have to go with Bubba....
Had to name my lil gator Skrappy.
Beastlord pets say ______'s warder..im all confused about this post haha
The name is what we call them. Its not visually there.
Example. Attack hotkey: Get 'em Skrappy.
or... Kill the mean monster fluffy!
I call my warder "clementine" and every time i get in those sticky situations where i send my pet in hoping for a tank to hold the train off for 10 secs while i use a gate potion, i start singing rl outloud:
"oh my darling, oh my darling, clementine, you are lost and gone forever, oh my darling, clementine"
of course the only way to sing that song is badly out of tune with a real hillybilly drawl on it :)
(ok if you don't know the song.....you didnt' live in the US and didn't take long driving vacations with parents that liked to sing)

Either that, or you never watched a Huckleberry Hound cartoon. :)
Ah... my scaled wolf has informed me her name is... Shark.
She eats like one too. =p
I voted I don't really care if we get to name our warders or not.....
However, I am slowly coming around to having the option to name our warder, not cause I have a nickname for him, cause to be honest I dont, but more for the reason, that when raiding, and I ask for buffs, or need a spot heal, and I send X_class_01 a tell for this, they type /rt for quick target and instead of getting me, they get my warder, and end up healing/buffing him, not very cool when ya need a heal to survive :-D
My warder is Tigger -always have been. Yeah I know it's not tht original but she likes her name and so do I. :-D
I would love to name her and to be able to "customize" her fur to match mine.
One thing I have wondered about though.. How come only us Vah Shir get a warder that grows? The wolf, Scaled wold and crocc are eternaly small..

They all grow to some extent and you're forgetting the bear, the only warder able to swallow the main bank in PoK. :-o
My warder's name is Quickpaws. She earned her name when I introduced myself to the purple club and she saved the day. :-D She thinks Kwickpawz is cooler but that only started when i stopped casting Spirit of Dog (yeah HER name for the spell) on myself but kept it on her so she could keep up. Come to think of it, the whole grumbling really started when I stopped casting Spirit of Castrated Bovine on myself (have to stop letting her hang out with mages' pets all the time. She certainly didn't get that spell name from me!).
This would make creating hotkeys to target me work and not target my pet all the time.
I wouldn't mind being able to name my pet. (No idea what to name him)
.. as Long as Rangers got Hampster pets named boo.
Go for the eyes, Boo, go for the eyes!
Would give my kitty something to play with

When you send a tell, and the person /rt's they wil most certainly hit you everytime. Since your pet cant sent tell,s they can't /rt him to target. When somenoe /target Soandso and Soandos's warder is closer to the buffer/healer they will target pet
or you can type
/tar <insert name here>`s
That will target your warder. (note it is ` which is next to the 1 key not apostrophe)

That only works for beastlord pets. Other pet classes have funky names for their pet. Sometimes you have to do /pet leader on them just to figure out who owns them.
I call my Warder Precious...
"it puts the lotion in the basket"
LOL My warder's name is Trouble....he hails back when he could wander off and bring back red cons to play. Yeah, that would work for me, "Tsekande's Trouble."
ROFL
Just trullin along and came across this post, wonder if it really is possible that this could ever happen...
I hope SOE want's to listen to the community before Norrath becomes a ghost town...
If somebody leaves teh game just because of this, well...they shouldn't have been playing in the first place. It was obviously a waste of time.
Most of my friends knows my pet's name, and its your resposibility to make your pet's name kinda famous hehe, " Mohock " is my pet's name :-D
I would name my scaled wolf Daisy
I'm not sure how beaten I'll get for this but in Shards of Dalaya (eq clone/emu thing) pet naming is enabled.
It can be done then, its just convincig SoE they want to do it. Really, its only like a surname applied to a pet - a database entry and a slight recode on pet naming ... how hard can it be?
Look, I have enough trouble trying to think of names and surnames without having to name my pet too! Boudicka's Warder is fine and descriptive. :)
