Title: Spiritual Vigor: Stacking Question
Post by: Lowger on March 25, 2004, 12:00:41 AM
I've recieved numerous requests from melee guild mates for this buff and as I'm just 61 I have to disappoint them every time but I did get a question last night along with the request that gave me pause.....

I was asked if our "SV was better than the Ranger buff that's similar".

To prevent any screw ups when/if I ever get this spell:

1).  Is our SV better than whatever Rangers get that is similar?

2).  What is the name of the Ranger spell that is similar?

3).  Any other experienced advice you can provide regarding SV and
     stacking?

(I did a search before posting but didn't come across anything.  Pardon if I overlooked an existing thread covering this topic)

The ranger spell you are thinking of is Strength of Tuare.

SoT add 60 atk add 125hp
Vigor add 40 atk add 225hp
BSS add 300hp

These spells all block one another. You have to decide which you want. Most  everyone asks for BSS which seems a bit foolish to me.  Sure for tanks and casters its best but for dps melees I think SoT is best.

Forgive me Mindlet,

BSS?  Who casts this?

Pardon my ignorance.  I solo too much.

EDIT: OH, and 300HP is all that BSS does?

BSS is a lvl 65 paladin buff and yes it only adds hp no atk.

BSS is 330 hps, not 300.

SV blocks the Cleric spell Yaulp VI, which gives them 12 mana/tic , 30% haste, some dex and atk. For a Cleric, Yaulp >>>> SV.

I always try to mention this to Clerics before they start frantically dropping buffs.  :)

"Most everyone asks for BSS which seems a bit foolish to me."

I agree.  BSS usually gets MGB'd and then some will get SV/SoT as they want.  I really like the extra atk on SoT usually, but sometimes just stick with SV for the hps/atk balance and the fact that I know it's going to be on me fulltime hehe.  For some BSS is the clear choice, but I think it's the old "hp > all" thing lots fall into *shrugs* more dps for me hehe.

It all depends on the type of group/raid going on. I would prefer SV over BSS on most raids depending on if I am the tank or not.  In groups I always prefer BSS.   I rarely if ever use SoT on either my BST or my Paladin.  As as tank HPs are king, as a BST hps are always too low so any boost is a welcome thing.

"In groups I always prefer BSS."

So in exp groups you'll take ~100hps over 40 raw atk?  And you'll "always" do this?  I'm honestly just asking as I keep thinking I read it wrong or something hehe.

In groups I am running the paladin and tanking, 40 atk on a paladin doesnt do awhole lot compared to the hps being able to get me to last a bit longer.   I hardly ever group with my BST. I tend to group with the same people all the time with the paladin and know the way the group functions.  I am solely a tank in that group.  The minimal amount of damage I do doesnt help or hurt the group.
Title: SoT, SV, or BSS?

On raids, attack junkies prefer SoT. HP junkies prefer BSS.  BSS is the only one that doesn't conflict with certainother attack buffs like Yaulp (clerics and paladins), Celestial Tranquility(monks), and maybe a couple others (incluidng a few instant-clickies). BSS is obviously the best choice for non-melees who don't need attack.

Either way, SV doesn't need to be cast in raids. SV is for smaller groups when the alternatives are not available. BSS is desired by the majority of the raid, so it should be the rule, with rangers casting on request afterwards for those who really want it.

Yes, I take BSS usually. Doesn't change my pet dps. Doesn't change my spell dps. Has a minimal impact on my melee dps -- my atk will still be in the 1600's.
