After turning in piece from Erena Farrel to recieve Epic 1.5.
Elder Animist Muada says 'I am honored to have had the opportunity to observe you -- a feral champion for the ills that have befallen our kind. You have certianly made your name known among us. While the spirit world is not freed from danger, it is much more promising with all that you've done. Take this token of our appreciation. It may appear to be too much right now, but it will be very important should you [wish to continue to walk among the elders] of the lords and beasts.'

[Fri Sep 24 14:40:22 2004] Elder Animist Muada says 'So eager to improve yourself, hm? This is encouraging indeed. You must understand that the path from here on out is full of brambles and you will need to acquire great knowledge of the spirit of the warder that you control. There is still much that you do not [know].'

[Fri Sep 24 14:40:25 2004] Elder Animist Muada says 'The terrible fate of the spirits in Discord is not over it seems. [Fri Sep 24 14:40:32 2004] Elder Animist Muada says 'I'm sure you recall the totem you found on that animist. Well, we have studied it in great detail and we need to create a counterpart to it. This requires a great deal of skill and may take some time to complete. This is not a [task] you will be able to fulfill on your own, so you may consider amassing a group of Norrathians that might be willing to help the conservation of the beastlords.'

We used it to focus the power of our warders to make them stronger and to bond them to our own spirits. It is time for you to take on this labor of life, now that you are well on the path to becoming one with the elders. Are you [prepared] to do this?'

Interesting. Seems that block of mud from the Plane of Air wasn't so useless afterall. heh
Nice lore, sounds interesting to say the least :). I guess the cats are finally fed up with the grimlings hehe, at least they aren't saying to kill Khati Sha the Twisted...yet lol.
QuoteGrimling General: he is not on the list but I ran into him on 9/18/04. He cons db to level 61, he hits for up to 493, has a 500 point HT and he does summon. The Grimling General spawned while I was killing grimlings with a Dire-Charmed sonic mangler. The mangler barely dented the General's hitpoints. The General can be snared but he resisted root when I tried it. I had to gate so I have no idea what he drops or if he is part of a larger spawn cycle.
QuoteWell ran into this guy my self on 9/18/04 con DB to me at a LVL 66 mage took a while to kill and drop a NO drop medallion what it for no ideal
Quotegrimling colonel: I just met up with the Grimling Colonel. He hits for 500 melee, casts for 500, summons and has about 25K hp (est). Was dark blue to my 62 wizzy, but he (my wizzy) went down in less than 60 seconds. Watch out for this guy. He seems to wander the path near the entrance to AC. Seems to have normal agro range.
Appears these are the 2 new grimlings you are looking for in Grimling Forest... from post at http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.shtml?zone=136.
Curious, though. Those sound like random rare spawns.
In previous days, the scout battles had specific spawns that would only occur within that event. Perhaps the mobs are one in the same, and were released into the wild early as a bug, but then again, they may be part of an unrelated quest.
They do sound like random spawns in certain locations, but then again since Scout Husman still does the normal grimling raids maybe he only tells you to find these 2 guys...only time will tell.
And yes I know the grimling raids all too well...did them many times both before and after revamp trying to get Cloak of the Khati Sha Hero among other things.
My tradeskill senses are tingling here...
I'm not 100% sure i like the direction this is going in...
Quote'You must create a totem that is bound to the wild spirits as well as your own. At one time in their lives, each elder has had one. We used it to focus the power of our warders to make them stronger and to bond them to our own spirits.
Does anyone else think this sounds like we might be making a pet focus item or aug as an interim reward on the way to epic 2.0?
That's what I was thinking...since we asked for a pet focus as part of our epic 2.0, i bet we get one in the middle before the final turn in. Kind of like the Brooch we got.
Is anyone actually working on this? There is no information here.
I've got the clay from air (still a bit of debate on whether it's BST or Shaman, they think it's ours, we think it's theirs...) and am working on 1.5, so I'd like to be able to at least be a little prepared for 2.0 when I finish 1.5.
I know there are a bunch of Time/GoD BSTs here that are probably further than the initial text. Here's my thoughts:
"'There is a creature of dark repute in a realm of winds that holds clay made malleable with magic. "
This appears to be the Feral Spirit Clay from the Spiritfrenzied Phoenix in Air.
Looks like we use it with Pottery to make some type of augment or other pet focus. Probably the best we can get. Not sure if all the items are necessary or just the clay for the focus.
"Our elder, someone you know, escaped its power and wrath once, but you must help. "
Perhaps Dumul has information about this, if he's the elder we know. Otherwise we may want to check Lesser Faydark.
"'You may need companions to aid you, which will test your strengths as a leader and a true lord of beasts. Tell Scout Husman you wish to end the great threat in the Grimling Forest and he will brief you. There are two pieces worn about the necks of as many grimlings. "
I don't think this is a standard mob, it would appear to be an event that you start with Husman, similar to the other camps or any of the spirits from Epic 1.0
This is geat. I've role-played my Beastlord as a Grimling Slayer (see sig) since I started him. I've written short stories on my guilds message board for a long time about the battle between the Grimlings and the Vah Shir.
I like the turn this is taking. I wonder if we'll have to eventually take out Khati Sha the Twisted?
"'A somewhat peaceful, if not fickle sort, nearby one of our dearest elders in a forest has been touched by the seeping of Discord into Norrath. It has become quite sickly with a dark magic and it has caused it to become extremely violent and seeking blood. Our elder, someone you know, escaped its power and wrath once, but you must help."
Hm, I interpreted this as returning to Rashara in Jaggedpine, as she's the only Elder I can think of in a forest who would be guaranteed to be "someone you know."

Not to mention the only one who was directly affected by the discord magics by having her warder's essence stripped from her.
I just love Grimling slaying - got the medallion and weapons to prove it, no Grimling can stand up to us!
Re the missing location Jaggedpine is the location of a few other epics too - thinly populated. Also a guildie got killed by a mob hitting for 700+ yesterday on way to Bard epic spawn. I wish I could remember what it was called though or the creature type, though it definetly wasnt the dragon.
Quote from: Vahaus WarderI like the turn this is taking. I wonder if we'll have to eventually take out Khati Sha the Twisted?
It wouldn't surprise me...the epic 2.0 is supposed to be rather difficult and very raid-centric. Khati Sha is very integral to the whole Beastlord Lore and they might figure adding him into the epic quest could finish the lore surrounding him.
Hmmm, fickle sort....maybe a dryad in JP has become infected?
Close!
You say, 'Hail, Rashara Wrualla'
Rashara Wrualla says 'I'm so glad you are here. There is a gnoll here seeking to steal my very essence! How did I come upon such bad luck? I believe this gnoll heard about the theft of my warder's essence, and now it wants mine. You must find it and spill its blood and take it to Muada forthwith!'
Apparently, this is an essential quest.
*cough* Sorry...
Update: the rear gnoll cave in the northwest has a new spawn - Dismal Darkpaw Mystic, red con at 69. I'm guessing this is a raid mob, and the gnoll Rashara is referring to.
Update 2: Had to go somewhere for about 45 minutes, when I returned it had despawned. Wonder if it spawned when I talked to Rashara...
Here is the information I have gathered so far on the first steps to 2.0 regarding the mobs.
1) There is a named pheonix in PoAir on isle 3. Seems to be one groupable if you can get to him. (i have not completed this step yet).
2) Apparently there are 2 grimlings that I have heard are about the same difficulty as the sphinxes in RM. Locations, pathing, spawn, despawn all currently unknown to me right now as i dont have a tracker.
3) Jaggedpine Forest - I completed this step the other night with a single group of Time geared folk. Upon hailing the Elder a lvl 71 giant gnoll will spawn in the back of the Darkpaw caves 5 seconds after hail. He despawns 45 minutes later, but will respawn again after hailing the elder. He doesnt hit very hard, I didnt tank him so not sure how much he dishes out. Fully slowable. Has a ton of HP and a very nasty AE DoT that can easily be cured with antidote. Make sure that you have a healer or 2 with group heals and he is cake.....just takes about 10 minutes to kill.

I spoke to Rashara in JP a few days ago and there was more text. After the initial hail, if you say "bad luck?" she will respond with more text. At the end of this 2nd bit of text it says [not possible], but when you say "not possible?" she just replies back with something like hmm come back later i am busy or something.
Could be useful for part 2 of epic 2.0 who knows...

I suspect you're just getting her old responses from the 1.5 quest - "luck" and "not possible" are the two phrases you use to trigger her request for help before the Dranik's Scar fight for 1.5.
killed both grimlin, seems they are random spawn, i would say no ph ive checked the zone 2 times in like 4h, colonel was up the 2nd time (sebilis isnt farmed, cant believe someone killed some grimlin between my 2 checks)
Well then killed Colonel 1time, General 2time = 3 similar collar. for the french database the p25 is missing, thats probably a rare drop of the 2grims (?).

This appears to be the Feral Spirit Clay from the Spiritfrenzied Phoenix in Air.
Can you give some more detail on this NPC? What level/con was it, how hard did he hit for, any AE or spells etc?
This is the last piece I need to do the combine, going to try and do it tomorrow night. Appreciate any info on this mob, thanks.
Look in the other thread about the Feral Spirit Clay.
Regarding Grimlings - can someone whos done them confirm what is needed to do them, what they drop, and so on. Did you have to speak with Husman as clue suggests?
Some info I found that I havent seen posted yet.
Grimling Forest:
[Tue Sep 28 18:27:04 2004] You say, 'I wish to end the great threat in the grimling forest'
[Tue Sep 28 18:27:05 2004] Scout Husman says 'Ah, I see you have come to help with the growing problem in the forest with the Grimlings. They were already a big enough problem, but some have changed and become ever more powerful and twisted. There are two in particular trying to amass a powerful following. You will mostly likely find them wandering in the forest from time to time as they recruit. Good luck to you friend.'
Colonel was up and stationary at -240, 100 then roamed to +480, -750 and stopped again. Killed him there so dunno if he goes anywhere else. Killing Colonel spawned the general which was roaming and stopped at +500, +400 where I killed him.
Colonel Hits for 430, mostly successful slow, summons and casts Lesser Grimling Leech http://lucy.allakhazam.com/spell.html?id=2081&source=Test
General Hit for 491, mostly succesful slow, summons and casts Lesser Grimling Leech also.
Both were very easy to solo and dropped the eerie medallion http://lucy.allakhazam.com/item.html?id=57025. Identical so dunno if theres a rare drop on them or not.
Jagged Pine:
Dismal Darkpaw Mystic in JP spawned at +3400 +380 in the gnoll caves Hit for 921 max, fully slowable and AE's Cessation of Health http://lucy.allakhazam.com/spell.html?id=4430&source=Test. He also likes to cast Shaman spells so has low melee damage but the DoT is a killer.
Hope that helps someone.
ouch the dot is nasty range 400 adjust -325 poison. 750hp a tick.
Interruptable - Yes, this sounds the key..
just 2 boxed the Gnoll with my husbands Shaman long long fight about 20 min and was touch ang go there a few times lost my pet 4x we ended up with 5 mana and just a few hundred hp's left, but got the blood
QuoteCan you give some more detail on this NPC? What level/con was it, how hard did he hit for, any AE or spells etc?
Nothing special on the mob, it's on the phoenix island with Calebriogoth or whatever his name is. Didn't remember anything special though, no exceptional DPS or anything like that.
However, it *is* Air and the Phoenix island tends to be double pulls, so I'd suggest 1 group of top guild members, 2 groups Time geared members. Not for the fight, more to make sure that you make it *to* the fight, too many adds to just walk in with 1 group, likely to find out that your Cleric just got eaten by a wanderer that came up from behind.
ok now that we have the clay the blood and the two medals from the grimlings does anyone have any idea what we do with them? He says we need several items and if thats a literal number then were missing a few items.
I have the two medals and will be killing the gnoll soon so Im not as far into 2.0 as other but has anyone tried giving the medals to scout in Grimling?

"Several" can mean four, so I think those four drops will do it. Muada's text indicates we're to return to him once we have them, so he may have further instructions at that point.
Ok does anyone know respawn time of mob in air? and has anyone with all 4 items tried hand in to let us know what happened?
Read Muada's text. Once you have gathered the items he requests, you have to go back to him and tell him you are ready to make the totem. Someone who has all four (I'm missing the clay still) should do this.

i thought this too but, wait around for about 30 mins where the someone posted the general stops he'll be there.
The colonel does not spawn the general, in my experience. I killed the general first, because he's the one my tracker saw first. I think they're both random, fairly common spawns.
Ran my Bard in to track - both the Colonel and the General were up at the same time on track. Apparently they can despawn, (or at least the Colonel can) as when I'd killed the General, I logged my Bard back in to track the Colonel down and he was nowhere to be found. (No one else was in the zone the whole time.)
Finally got the stupid clay what a PITA.
[Fri Oct 01 01:11:53 2004] You say, 'make the totem'
[Fri Oct 01 01:11:54 2004] Elder Animist Muada says 'Very well. You must now fashion the shape of the totem and imbue it with what you have collected, but not without this bit of beastlord magic. The elders fashion this essence rarely, so treat it with care. You will need to take the clay, the medallion, wood I gave you, and the essence and learn which to craft together. Then, use this mold with the clay and you will have completed your first step. Return to me and tell me that you are finished with this important duty. Be careful.'
Any suggestions for me to try for combines hes very vague yet again.
He gives you a Combined Essence and an Elder Totem Mold.
Well, I guess here's the trick...
What goes together?
You've only got like 4 or 5 tradeskills. We can try all of them without too much worry of destroying the stuff (or it had BETTER not destroy the stuff). 4 items, 5 containers... pretty sure that the clay is pottery... I'd think about getting the essence and doing something with jewelcraft (combine with the medals?), then try anything and everything with the wood... can't be a bow, we don't use bows
Actually my first temptation is a Humming Luclinite Hammer or whatever it's called and see what it can do.
QuoteElder Animist Muada says 'Very well. You must now fashion the shape of the totem and imbue it with what you have collected, but not without this bit of beastlord magic. Ok it says near the end - Then, Use this mold with the clay. So dont need to try a combine with clay until something else is made.
Wood blood and medallion left..
I would guess that the blood is used in tempering the medallion - try a forge.
Then combine the wood and tempered medallion in a something :) ok guessing at a forge again but wouldnt be surprised if its tailoring..
Then combine the mold it produces in a kiln.
I wish I was this far ahead to be able to try it :(
Yeah. You can try jewelcraft and smithing for the medallions. Sounds like you can set the mold asisde until the end. You probably can set aside the clay until then too but you might need to prepare it somehow (I hope not).
QuoteOk it says near the end - Then, Use this mold with the clay. So dont need to try a combine with clay until something else is made.
Not so sure about that - he does say to take the clay, medallion, wood and essence to start with. I'm thinking the blood may be for shaping the clay (most pottery combines use water, but a lot of the Shar Vahl progressive pottery quest combines use blood or bile) before the step with the mold.
Guess I need to recruit some people and head out to Jaggedpine again, I still don't have the blood.
Got all pieces now, will start trying combines now and post what ever i figure out.
Ok tried Fletching, Smithing, Tailoring, Pottery and no luck, I even added normal water and nothing will combine ( didnt use the Mold as in his text he says treat the clay and then use the mold ) any suggestions is much appreciated :-)
By the way, I think we do have the right four drops here - if you return to Muada before aquiring those four items, (I tried just for the heck of it) you get:
You say, 'I wish to make the totem.'
Elder Animist Muada says 'Looks like you may not have everything you need to make the totem, eager beastlord.'
maybe brewing for the clay?
Has anyone tried talking to other masters? You know, the 5 guys from Epic 1.5.
generaly tempers are made with brewing try combinding the wood and the blood in the brewing barral if that gets you a temper then i would put the tember and the medals in the forg
once i can convince some ppl to come help in in Air and get my clay ill give a frew try's all my triad skills are 250.
So the items we have are
Combined Essence
Elder Totem Mold
Clay from pheonix
2 Medallions
Gnoll Blood
Was just rereading the original post and i think the initial text has clues to the combines
QuoteElder Animist Muada says 'There is a creature of dark repute in a realm of winds that holds clay made malleable with magic. Once the shape of a beast is made with it, it can aid us to summon those forms from the wild. We have found a way to refine it to help us summon the strongest and most loyal warders. [There is more] too.'
i would guess from this..
Combine the combine essense with the clay to make it "malleable"
The combine the mold with the clay in a pottery wheel to "shape" it
QuoteElder Animist Muada says 'A somewhat peaceful, if not fickle sort, nearby one of our dearest elders in a forest has been touched by the seeping of Discord into Norrath. It has become quite sickly with a dark magic and it has caused it to become extremely violent and seeking blood. Our elder, someone you know, escaped its power and wrath once, but you must help. This creature carries a magical blood which we will use for your totem to honor the lost wild spirits this creature consumed. I understand this creature was strengthened by taking the life of a noble and ancient wolf of our [world].'
Combine the totem we have made so far with the blood (perhaps in a kiln)
QuoteElder Animist Muada says 'You may need companions to aid you, which will test your strengths as a leader and a true lord of beasts. This ones a bit less helpful but im guessing you combine both medals together in a forge to melt them down into metals, then combine these with the totem made so far for the final totem.
just one fight to go then ill be working on 2 myself - GL with the combines.

Is that all 2 and 3 combines, or did i miss some? I begin over, just done brewing with these combines and no luck, will do Fletching, Smithing, Baking, Tailoring and Pottery now...
what about single combines?
when you combine tea leaves in a brew barrel on there own you get 1-3 tea. maybe you need to change the base material in a similar way first?
Just a thought...
Clay made malleable with magic
Try combining the clay with some of the enchanter summoned mana liquids (can't think of the name of them for the life of me)
Might need to try it with the mold as well.
All single combines tried, and failed. Thanks for the idea though :-)
Item Lore: You think you see heads of beasts in this clay.
Item Lore: The burning blood of an infected creature.
Item Lore: An essence swirls within.
Item Lore: This wood seems to creak when touched.
Item Lore: A medallion touched by a dark magic.
Item Lore: A medallion touched by a dark magic.
Item Lore: A totem only the beastlord elders command.
Identify of the 7 items...
It might require a specific container... bowl instead of oven... kiln instead of pottery wheel...
just thoughts.... a lot of combines require a specific container.
Seperate containers just sparked a thought, anyone remember doing the prgressive pottery quest in Shar Vahl?
For the final step you had to make game peices. You had to collect clay and combine it with rockhopper blood in the bowl given to you when you begin the quest and the combine the clay with a sketch on a wheel.
Just a thought, and looking at the other epics, it looks like we've might have a bit of work ahead of us, especially if it requires a minimum skill level

Doesnt seem many working on this, progress ground to a halt and no discussions :/
Combines seem to need another random component, are bugged or something we just dont know about.
Thoughts based on common tradeskill combines:
Blood and clay in a bowl
Blood and clay in a potters wheel
Two medallions and blood in a forge (+hammer?)
One or two medallions and water in a forge (+hammer?)
One or two medallions and metal bits in a forge (+hammer? Vah Shir Anvil?)
One or two medallions and metal rings in a forge ("")
Hoping to have the blood so I can try these soon - bit tough talking people into heading out to JPF for a 2.0 drop when they're all working on their epic 1.5 steps. :?
I've been trying various combines - still nothing.
I'm going to back track on the other Npc's perhaps they have additional information or perhaps there could be a new Npc that needs to be discovered (/shrug)
I have had the components for awhile now - but no luck on the combines.
I haven't been able to garner enough support for PoAir to continue. Maybe someday...
just completed my epic 1.5 yesterday so will get to work on collecting these so i can start hammering out some combines.
I think we need to start restructuring this part of the epic on the forum - eg list each encounter and step in its own thread like we did in 1.5. one of the main reasons the clerics had such a hard time working out and even still completing epics is because all the info i burried in a 20+ page long thread or two!!
From my days as a cub in the pits arround Shar Vahl,
Occasionally the mobs that spawn in the pits are replaced by Grimlings.
When this happens, i have found a no drop bowl that is a 4 slot container with a combine key on it. Could this bowl, with no previous use, be used to combine the clay, blood, etc?
Just an idea

Did anyone note the death messages for the various mobs who drop our quest pieces? Maybe there is a clue buried in there.
Does Merchant Ayyad from the progressive pottery quest respond to any questions about our epic items? Do the pottery merchants have any unusual patterns or tools on them? the alchemy merchants? Does the vah shir guildleader or any of the npcs in his room have anything new to say about epic 2.0?
here is a link to the bowl I was talking about in my previous post.

hope this helps,

Has SOE confirmed that this isn't BROKEN?
Hate to say it, but they're not exactly what I would call stainless on quests... how long did it take them to fix the Blued Two Handed Hammer quest? 2 years, 3?
Give it some time - there are only a few people trying combinations at the moment, and if it involves other ingredients (water, any of several kinds of smithing hammers, sculpting tools, etc) there are a TON of combinations to try.
Don't forget jewelcraft... maybe combine metals with essence... with maybe a gemsetter or something... jsut thinking.
Giving us an actual clue about the combine would have been really cool too.
Sorry but I'am new to using this form so having problems getting the quotes to work. Anyway:
I have completed 1.5, but have yet to do PoA and the Gnoll, but I have been trying to brain storm this combine issue and was wondering if anyone has tried the following:
First: Mauda says this can be made malliable with magic. Enchanters have an enchant clay spell, perhaps it can be enchanted somehow.
Second: he says "is full of brambles" Beast Lord Discipline NPC in EC is named brambles, perhaps after you say ready to make totem, you can hail him and he gives you some info, or you can give him totem

Anyone tied combination of the clay, blood and/or essence on a pottery wheel with sculpting tools? with and idol sketch? How about in a mixing bowl with a spoon? Hopefully soon my guild will hit Air again and I can join in on experimenting.
What about either the clay with blood or essence in a LDoN birdbath?
Hey guys. I am newly registered, but have surfed the forums here for a while and noticed that every beast has had trouble doing this combine. Now I wish I could give you all the answer, but seeing as I am still lacking the blood, 2 medals and piece of air I can only offer my suggestions. From the start Muada says:
QuoteElder Animist Muada says 'This is good news. I had no doubt you were ready. First, take this piece of wood. It is the first item you will need in creating your totem.
Now just from that thought I would theorize that the wood would be the first combine to focus on. Since Muada says to finally use the mold with the clay I would say that pottery is the last step. Just a guess but would think we need to do combine in a secial forge...maybe a new one in shar vahl that someone has overlooked. But from what I would try first is the following:
the wood + 2 medals (+possible water flask or unknown) in forge
use that combine + blood in brew barrel/forge
previous combine result + clay on pottery wheel
then take the combined clay + the mold in a kiln
Again these are just suggestions from the top of my head.
