I have just read the transcript from SOE chatline of yesterday 3rd february 2004.

About halfway down there was a question about increasing the level past 65 !!!!

The full transcript can be found on www.rpgexpert.com

The answer "NO COMMENT" which obviously means they are considering it.

Damn, i've still some leveling to do to 65, but I think more levels would be awesome...so long as there is good, solo and grouping, content to come with them...new pets, spells, AA's...hell yeah!!

I've probably posted this sort of thing with talk of any new expansion on the horizon and increasing the level limits but here I go again ...

Increasing the level limits would be perfectly fine as long as they prohibit higher levels from utilizing lower level content.  There is no 'good solution' to this inherent problem in level-based systems.  They blew one bit of this when they "blue'd" everything for the PoP-level players.  Forcing those that decided to go 61-65 to stay out of -60 content was a GOOD thing.  They just needed to provide more 61-65 content than they did.  If they want to make the next expansion for 66-70s, give those that want to do so a 1-way ticket to the 4th dimension or wherever the expansion is, and thats it - no going back to farm Ssra/ToV/VT or whatever.  Its already utterly disgusting that 65 has all but trivialized Original-Luclin content, I can only assume GoD will trivialize alot of PoP for raiders (even slacker guilds will be able to hit PoTime if everyone has 50% more hps/mana regen due to new AAs, leadership/tribute stuff) and I shudder to think what any post-GoD expansion will do.

EQ has turned into a "if I'm not 65, I'm lame" game.  What is needed is some game where people will be happy with whatever 'level' they are at, because there is some benefit and content for them at any point in the game.  EQ is *not* that game, and with each expansion it moves farther from that model.

Hmm I should stick with "increasing the level limits would suck" and I'd save myself some typing ...

I can't say I'm eager for more leveling either.. the initial few months where everyone's gaining those levels and getting the new spells are fun, but then it becomes the 'Not max level?  WHat's wrong with you?' bit.

It certainly would be nice if we could go back to the days when level really didn't mean all that much other than who you could group with effectively...  Sadly those days are gone and there's really nothing that can be done about it.. perhaps EQ2 will offer this again.. we shall see.

Personally, I think I neat idea for levels beyond 65 is that first lvl 66 is opened up and only until a certain % of the general population reaches 66 then lvl 67 opens up... might be stupid, but it's just an idea.

Hey y'all,

I'm thrilled to hear that SoE has a long term plan for the original Everquest.  It sounds to me like they plan to keep the game up and running for quite some time.

Maybe it's just me but hearing that they might raise the level limit and add alot of new content is like having my boss tell me he's extended my vacation.

Color me excited.

Unfortunately, it looks like they might raise the level limit and not add a lot of new content, until next expansion anyway.

Allowing increased levels will just break old content even further, or worse yet, leave it totally unused.  The restrictions they tried at PoP release didn't work as I recall.  Too many players, not enough accessible, level appropriate new content.

Thought I read that no level increase in GoD, but they are intending to increase to 70 sometime in the future.  Also, each level past 65 will require twice as much as the previous level.  So 67 will take twice as much exp as 66 does, 68 will take twice as much as 67 and so on and so forth.

I'd love for there to be more levels :)  I sat under max level for about 3 years, I have no problem doing it again, it was fun :)

I can't find the transcript at that site.  What name is it under?

Sorry but that's the fault of the playerbase not the game itself. EQ has always been completely open-ended in that theoretically you can do whatever you want, whenever you want. You don't have to level at all if you don't want to. Most people choose to because of the promise of increased power at higher levels.

If people feel like they have "lesser" characters if they're not 65 that's a problem with player insecurity which transcends anything in EQ or any other game.

By your logic, I guess they should just make levels just a number with no added benefits at all in terms of increased power/abilities/whatever other than it being an indication of how long you've been playing the game.

When they re-blue'd everything for people above level 60 it re-opened up the game for everyone that likes to solo or doesn't like spending mass time in PoP.

For instance:

How many people 60 and below do you see in SG?  CT?  DN?  Charasis?  Griegs?  UP?  and there are more zones like this...

Before the re-blueing, NO ONE was going to these zones (at least on Karana).  Now many people, including myself go there to solo or tear the place up with a group of 65's.  Are we "stealing content" from pre-61's ?

HELL NO, no one is there.  Upping the levels again, will light blue most of these places for people level 70 and I will then stomp through the content in PoP, GoD and whatever higher end stuff that comes down the pike.

Do you really think, that at level 70 I'm gonna be spending my time raping VS, Gore or Talendor?  MAYBE once, just for the screenie.

The way SOE could keep level 70 people from farming for alts, is simply by making more of those twink items NO-DROP.
