I was in The Grey for 3 hours last night trying to get the Perfect Acrylia Ore.  I didn't think to start mapping out the stationary trap locations for the rock-type mobs until I was already an hour into it, so I know there are some locations that I missed.  But most of the ones around the perimeter should be accurate.  I did notice that some of the trap locations are much more consistent than others in spawning each time around, but I didn't mark those.  I only marked when a rock-type mob popped, and not when a worm popped.

Just copy the following at the end of your thegrey.txt (or thegrey_1, thegrey_2, thegrey_3):

I believe the traps can move around.  Anyone know if that is true or not?

Oneiromancer

From what I read, it's the worm traps that move around, and the rock traps stay in the same place.  I saw some confusing things while hunting and this matches up the best with what I saw.  There were a few times where I accidentally aggroed a skeleton, and a worm popped out...and then another worm...and another...it was like I was at some "crossroads" where the trap paths met.

Now, I suppose one possibility would be that all traps move, and if you're on a rock then you get the rock mobs sprung and if you're on the ground then you get a worm.  I don't think that's necessarily true, since I've gotten worms to spawn when I'm standing on a rock before (although they seem to spawn on the sand).  However, if it is true, then the locations above are still useful because it shows which rocks cross the path.

I also wonder if the "a shimmering rockfiend" is related to the traps.  At first I was pulling those guys but then read up on it and realized that was wrong.  They seem to almost always spawn on top of a rock, or right next to one.  Once I saw one despawn from a rock (I had him targeted and he just disappeared) and then a second later a new one appeard on another rock.  I wonder if they "suppress" traps from being set off or something.

Regardless of how the traps work exactly...most of the locations I have above were consistent in spawning boulder or stone mobs.  Others I only saw one spawn (partly because several of the locations were discovered on my final lap around the zone border).

I certainly aagree with you that worm traps and rock traps must be independent.  There are also only a certain number of possible rock trap locations, all in rocks, of course.

There seem to be more shimmering rock fiends up than spawning from traps alone would account for, triggered or not.  I didn't pull these when I was epic hunting, simply because they were too tough for me at the time.

I never had the nameds spawn for me either - despite 2 long days hunting in the zone.

Gilik

Tried these locations and some did and some didn't work for me. It is still very helpful because it at least gives you a general idea of where to look. This has been the worst part of the epic for me so far, first time I've gotten killed (by the stupid summoning trap spawns), and by far the longest any of the steps have taken me. All I need is this and Maiden's Eye, then I'm done, but this may be awhile.

Oneiromancer

If I remember correctly, some of the locations didn't spawn every time, and even the ones that spawned often still seemed to skip a cycle.  I don't know if you checked spots after you tried once, but it may be related to the "moving trap" hypothesis, I'm not entirely sure.

Been spending quite a bit of time in The Grey recently to pick up an item or two or three.  I can confirm, rock traps do NOT move.  There are some places that are not on that list though, and I do know that sometimes they do not reset quickly.  Others do.  Just gotta have the luck of the draw, I guess.

Spent a little time there using the locations posted here.  I found traps at those locations.  Some traps indicated did not spawn but did not come back as I got called away.

Heading back there this week.  Just need 2 gems and the ore for my final fight.

Yeah, I didn't even think to mark my map until I had already been there for an hour, so I know I missed many traps...especially ones near the Mons Letalis zoneline, where I started out hunting before moving over near the Scarlet Desert zoneline.

Whiptail_Warclaw

I got my Acrylia lastnight. I just camped at the Scarlet Desert zone and pulled from the rocktrap that is just to the left at pos 35 - neg 1566. I was also pulling from the trap at pos 300 neg 1440, just NW of the SD zone.

Did thiscamp with just myself (62 BST ) and my friend (a 56 mag)... was easy enough. With both had KEI and virtue. Only healing I used was my Chlorblast and my regen. All rock mobs from the traps were slowable.
Warning for the unpropared: The tiny green conning (at 62) Boulderlings are nasty little buggers. I was scouting the traps, trying to find each one near the SD zone and my invis dropped just after i had tripped a trap. My Warder was parked at the SD zone, so i was alone, un-invis with three of these Boulderlings beating on me.
Well they can be nasty. the proc a 50DD spell and they proc very often, they still were able to melee me well enough and they summon. I have to check my logs, but they also seemed to cast a "snare" spell.
I tried to run for the SD zone and agroed two worm traps as well. By the time my 56 mage friend and Warder showed up, I was at 16% health and trying to chain heal myself. Well i survived, but showed the boulderlings a lot more resect after that little adventure.

Also a note: Stone Beasts that drop our Acrylia also have a chance of dropping a Lucid shard, that is needed for the Vex Thal key quest.

I got my acrylia from a mob called Boulder on Thursday just as i was leaving the zone  :-)  He spawned from the 3rd trap to the right (facing it) of SD zone close to the zone wall.  I must have spent 12+ hours on and off camping the ore (The Deep and ME drops took about 10 mins each) so was really happy to get it.

Now if SoE can stop bringing down the server long enough for the TD and FG scouts to spawn i can finally finish Epic 1.0

man talk about the camp from hell..
camped these guys for 6 days strait.. finally popped. a good way to speed up the process is to have a bard run around and kite lots of mobs ata time. just my 2 copper...good luck and never quit.
ok who pulled vox....rezz plz

Nekokirei

I had really good luck w/the copper medal.
I had an ok time getting dense fungal padding.
I got my tail handed to me in ME and no gems yet
I'm having a devil of a time here in The Grey.

I've copied the locations--thanks much for those!

but trying to find a pull spot, keep EB up, avoid adds, and find the right mobs is driving me buggy.

I didn't try Nox' or Whiptails suggestions for camp spots, has anyone had any luck in those areas or better luck in other parts of zone?

Whiptail's spot is on the money.  I've got mine and 3 other drops for beastlord buddies there.

Nekokirei

Sweet, Thanks!  Figure I'll grab my mage buddy and hit that spot tonite.  He's got a baby beast so he'll have some incentive to keep me company.

After that, gotta find a group and spot in ME for those gem drops.  Oy.  Not looking forward to that.
