Anyone running a magician with their beastlord?

If so, how do you find dealing with runners post 60th?

For the life of me I cannot see a magi air pet in their 61+ spell line up, do any of the others cast stun?

I duo with my wife's mage sometimes, it's free exp for her.

Air pet stuns, and only the air pet.  Rellic and an air pet is a good replacement for hobble, but not quite as good as boxing a snarer :).

Hrm, interesting.  I currently run a necro on my 3rd box, but I'm thinking of swapping him out for a magician.  Was worried about the loss of snare though ...

All depends on where you go and what mobs you kill.  In GoD, for example, letting a mob run is suicide.  In tier1 tier2 PoP, it might not matter as much without snare.

Everywhere and everything!

I guess the question is, will Relic & air pet (found the 60+ air pet btw   ) make up for lack of snare?  Or Hobble & Son of Rathe?  Or any combination thereof?

Mage is probably the easiest character to box, on a par with a wiz or cleric.  I'd say from the duoing experience that stuns but no snare means that most kills don't travel very far, and nothing gets a gate off - but a runner will still cause a lot of trouble.  It all depends on what you are killing; in a spot where a runner means death you'll die less, but you'll still die.

Hrm.

Well, another option is a wizzie.  They bring what I need, but lack the utility that a mage brings.  I'm doing ok without that utility, but it'd be nice to have.  And I just don't like wizzies; mages are more fun.

The thing that's hurting me most at the moment (and I failed an LDoN last night because of this) is lack of scouting ability.  Elder Holgresh Beads would do the trick nicely, but getting a set of them is pretty much out of the question.

I would have thought that the combination of Relic & earth pet root (which I don't like but I can live with) would have stopped pretty much every runner.  I've not yet got Hobble; does it not reliably fire every fight?  I don't like the lack of stun if I had Hobble active, but I can live with that too.

Hobble procs a lot.  It's not 100%, but it's pretty reliable.  I have no issue using in solo spots and feeling pretty comfortable that snare is covered.  Really I can't say too much though because I really like necro in the duo/trio with bst and have elder beads.  It's not like you need to pop an eye every single pull or anything though.  Picking up a few stalking probes and distributing across your chars would help.  Not infinite charges, but I go lots of LDoNs and places without ever summoning up an eye.

Hereki

I don't have Hobble, and most often duo with a druid (sorry), so snare isn't an issue.  Magicians either love their earth pet way too much, or never use it because it sucks.  It wouldn't occur to me to use earth pet at all :).

I dare say that earth pet roots or hobble would solve the problem - Hobble might not proc, but then my druid can get a bad string of resists, too.

Tinkered stalking probes (purchased or gnomebuilt(tm)) are a good replacement for a HEBeads.  Another option is the drop from the Stone Spider in SolB that has 5 charges of EoZ.

Beyond that, pony up the cash -- no bind sight items, and no other scouting tools (bind sight on our warders would be very nice -- as would the ability to see from our warders perspective and control their motion -- and laserbeams attached to their foreheads!)

Holgresh Beads would be just fine ... it's a matter of finding them for sale!

Maybe when (if) the casino is back.

In the mean time I'm leveling a mage for the heck of it.

Interesting to note: Every single caster class has some innate form of mana regen ... except mages.

Enchanters:  KEI line
Necros:  Lich
Wizzies:  Familiars, harvest
Clerics:  Blessed Armour of the Risen line
Shamans:  Canni
Druids:  Pot9
Rangers:  Mask of the Stalker
Shadow knights:  Pact of Hate
Beasties:  Spiritual Purity line
Paladins:  Aura of the Crusader

Did I miss anyone?  Excluding bards cuz they're weird.

Edit:  My bad, GoD spell:  http://lucy.allakhazam.com/item.html?id=59825

Oh, and this one:  http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=2539

and mod rods.  If you just using on yourself you do turn a mana profit on it and regen the damage back.  Pet cani was nice mana regen too, but oh wells.

Bard mana regen does not affect bard mana, only flowing thought does.

Other than that, they have a variety of songs starting at 2/tic up to 20/tic at 65 for mana for their party members, and later they're AoE.

Urm, yes, I'm aware of those things; that's why I said they were weird.
