I dont have Excel so does anyone know any good software i could use to mess around with the different spreadsheets on the site?

ShaitynAB

Do you have any spreadsheet software at all?  I think most machines these days comes with Microsoft Works pre-installed...If so, some spreadsheet software comes with the ability to convert Excel files over to their format.  It's been my experience that after doing this you may have to play around with some of the formatting and formulas to get everything working properly.

In absence of that, you can view Excel spreadsheets using the Excel Viewer.  I have included a link for the download.

Just go to www.openoffice.org and download the 1.1 release.  OpenOffice is compatable with almost all OS's and you can't beat the price....free.  The other great thing is it has a word processor software and presentation software all of which are 100% compatable with MS Office.

Damn, Tooflus, you beat me to it.  OpenOffice is awesome.  I've been using it since it first changed from being "Star Office", and have all my friends using it as well, since it is just as good (if not better than) MS Office, or other Office Suites, and is 100% free.

Open office have an Access clone?

or something else to handle databases decently?

DiosT

found that answer...

Ok... next question..

How well does OpenOffice's program interact with MySQL ?

says it supports it natively, can it connect to the DB directly? or do i need to import data?

Xlorep DarkHelm

I believe it can connect directly.  I haven't tried personally, but "natively" generally means that it connects directly to the database, possibly even across a network (which would be silly if it didn't).  Plus I'd guess that it was the default option (as MySQL tends to be the most popular of the database backends, with PostgreSQL coming in a close second).
