Please help me with these damn Pop-ups while playing EQ

Hello Beastlords...

While i am playing EQ, even before i get on the internet or do anything else after starting computer, i keep getting a pop-up that says "I hate Pop ups" that has a link for a program to stop popups. It's not just the fact that the pop up minimizes my EQ game or locks it up so i cant move but still see and makes me die, or the fact that adaware cant remove it, or the fact that i disabled windows messenger that pisses me off, but the title of the friggin popup really pisses me off.

my question is, how can i get these things to stop? i have Zone alarm, but i don't know how to let it only accept eq apps to run, because A. i dont know how to work it, and B. i dont know the names of the different EQ apps that need permission.

also, is there anyway i can set zone alarm up to only block that one popup? when i right click and do View source, it gives me a URL, can i block that?

TIA, and if whatever suggestion you give me works, i'll give you my firstborn baby.

Assuming you have WinXP

START button...

Run...

services.msc

STOP and DISABLE "Messenger"

This is NOT Windows Messenger (the chat program) so dont worry in case you use that. :)

Download Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware. I usually run both of them and they find something the other one missed. They get rid of spyware, stuff like gator, etc.

It's probably some annoying program like that that is running in the background.

damn things wont stop even with pop up stopper, firewall, adaware and messenger disabled.

I hate popups is in fact the name of a popup stopper. Did you ever install a demo version of it? Check installed programs and make sure that its not there anywhere.

I've had some problems with these pop ups as well along the internet road. There are two ways that I have figured out to fix them, a short way, and a long way.

Short way.

Go to Control Panel
Click Add/Remove programs
Remove any program that may sound not nice. (If you don't know what programs you have installed on your computer)

Long way.

Open up File Manager
Delete all files that were installed to your computer on the date the pop-up adds began.

Certain internet adds unknowingly install programs/pop-ups on your computer, which really really pisses me off.

Another thing you can look at

Start -> Run -> msconfig

Go to the startup tab and see whats in there. You can uncheck things there to stop them running when you boot.

DashBar is spyware. IF you haven't updated your AdAware reference file, ou might want to do that and try again. Otherwise download spybot and see if it can catch what AdAware didn't. But that is definitely a spyware problem.

I know. You said Windows Messenger, and not Messenger Service. Its two different things, which I pointed out.

In an effort to help, I was recommending disabling MESSENGER SERVICE, not WINDOWS MESSENGER, which you said you disabled.

I'm assuming you have a MSI motherboard, that program just checks to see if there are any newer software/bios updates available for your computer. It doesnt need to be running all the time so your safe to just disable it.

Ah, no problem hon. I knew it was just frustration talking, hehe.

Well, at worse, you just fall back to the OS reinstall dance and start from scratch... the hubby does it to our 3 systems about every 6 months to clear out the gunk... :)
