Okay, here's the whole story.

I get that yellow message today saying that something was going on in Norrath that I'm sure many others saw.  Curious I looked around but found nothing.. turns out, as I found out through a friend, that there was a war going on in Steamfront between skeletons/Minos/clockworks and a whole lotta gnomes.  At first most of the stuff was pretty weak, everything con'd indifferent, and people where figuring out ways to get exp, plus some interesting items were droping.

Well, then the skeletons started poping in an aggro state.. and they where not your run of the junk skeleton.. lvl 64, doubled for 550, plenty of HP, and they where all classes, so people where getting AoE tashed, nuked with high level lures, feared, rooted... in other words, players started dying.. left and right.  Everyone there must have died at least 3 times, and I was no exception.

After dying twice I started to be a bit more careful, standing back and watching and trying to pick stuff off that was low on health.. well, suddenly this huge mob of skeletons rushes past me, pauses long enugh to kick my ass, then continues on their merry way... I was riding my drogmor at the time.

So, I go back to try to drag my corpse to where someone had brought their cleric bot for the sake of rezzing everyone since it was happening so much.  After about 30 feet the same skeleton mob zoomed in after me so I gave up dragging and just ran.. I got to the windmills before I was feared, rooted, and killed.

The rogue that had told me where it was happening drags my naked corpse to an out of the way spot and looks for my geared corpse.. he can't see it. I go looking too... very carefully..  I spot my drogmor standing there by himself, but my corpse is no where to be seen.  I get chased off and nearly killed again so I just decide it best to get my corpse summoned and be done with it.  175pp down the drain as the only necro to be found is someone's bot and is only lvl 51 so far.  Oh well.

The necro summons my corpse, poof, there it is.. yah.  The cleric rezes my corpse, yah.  I hit accept and 'poof'... I'm suddenly 100 feet away at the succor location in the center of the zone with a message saying I was Under the World so 150 units below where my corpse was actually resting... wtf?   I run back to where it is and try to loot 'Someone is already looting that corpse'..... Great.

I relog... and what greets me?  My drogmor.  Yes, that's right, my corpse had suddenly turned into my drogmor... had he gotten tired of carrying me around?  Had he eatten me out of spite?  Was he laughing at me?

Rogue says he can still see my corpse in the exact spot where my drogmor is now standing.. hmmm...  /petition time.  The cleric, who had zoned since the rez, said he could see the drogmor and not the corpse.  The rogue could not /corpse drag it, and I could target it with /assist, but it was too far away to loot or drag.

2 hours go by.  I get tired of waiting.  I call on another friend who brings their 61 SK in to summon the corpse again.. 175pp more thrown away.  This time I have the SK stand on top of the huge skull sitting in the middle of the field  so that if the corpse does fall through the ground below him it'll just land on the earth 10 feet down.  He summons, corpse appears below... 'Someone is already looting that corpse'  'corpse is too far away to summon'..... GRRRRRR.

I relog.  Hello Droggy!  My client crashes.  I get 1018'd for 10 minutes.  I chat with GMs in chat 'Petition in game' they reply as though using a macro.  I use the Email your GM on eqlive, 'Petition in game' the automated responce tells me.  Now it's been 4 and a half hours since this whole mess started and I'm irked... IRKED I TELL YOU!!!

At the very least I took some mild amusment in the fact my warder can attack my drogmor, whom shrugs off every attack and resists every proc, as you can see here:

I pray this won't be another nightmare where I end up waiting for my corpse to rot, then discover the gravyard zone doesn't work, the get told 3 months from now there's nothing they can do.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE....

Pojodan

After a 6 hour wait the GM showed up, summoned me and my corpse to another part of the zone where I had the same 'Someone else looting' message.  So he summoned me and my corpse to the Nexus stone in PoK (How humiliating!) where I was able to loot just fine.  Some milk and magic cookies later the gnome GM shark down to the size of my foot and vanished.

I'm wondering what the damned point of that "event" was.  I'm ESPECIALLY wondering why the fuck they held it in Steamfont, instead of somewhere like PoE or some other place where the local players are equipped to handle stupid crap like that.

My gnome necro got caught in a death loop when I logged him on, unaware of what was going on. Die, respawn into the mass of skeletons at the spawn point, get pasted before i can type /q, ad infinitum. I had to CTRL ALT DEL my way out of EQ. Lucky me he's not high enough to lose any exp or gear from that, but it still pissed me off.

So I log on Sartha to go see what the hell that was about. What do I see? player corpses stretched across the newbie field. I invis and make my way out to the minotaur caves, where my 2 gigs of Ram, 512m Radeon system was slowed to a crawl by a mass of gnomes, skeletons, clockworks, and minotaurs beating the crap out of each other. I was the only person around, until a Ranger showed up, plinked a few mobs, and was squished.

The only, ONLY loot I saw from this was a steel-plated bracer or something that I believe Phurrin linked in the channel. I watched as these armies of mobs destroyed each other and left the world with no point, reminding us again why it's maybe for the best that there's no GM events - because GM's are absolute retards.

It appeared to be some sort of clockwork revolt that allied with skeletons and minotaurs.

Why they where all lvl 60+ and had the ability to go anywhere in the zone AND be aggro to everyone is beyond me.  It didn't help that corpses where disappearing under the world (Mine was not the only corpse that needed to be summoned)

By the end of it I had to back up quickly upon zoning in via the PoK book as a groip of three skeletons where right nearby with several more scattered about with gnomes and other things running this way and that.

In the end the rogue I was with figure out that if you did 1 pt of damage to any of the MoBs you would get full exp when they killed each other and a corpse was left... I ended up leaching half an AA as he ran in circles pinking arrows into anything he saw... kinda made up for my greif, I suppose.  I also picked up a 14/22 1HB with minor stats that had an interesting graphic.

Apperantly the event took place again today and the rogue was there with bags full of arrows.

I just know that next time one of these things comes along I'm gonna go in with my lvl 8 warrior to see what's going on before risking losing more than I bargained for.

Sartha, I read somewhere that GM Event's like this could only take place in old world zones due to the mechanics of the game. Don't know about the validity of that though.

I see it as another example of SOE pandering to the high-end crowd. A GM event that is only useable by level 65, Time geared players.

Ain't it nice?

When I first saw the plans for the anniversary events, I was excited. Until I got killed 3 times by Green conning commanders. And before I got knocked off the Adventure recruiter 6 times, and my group broke up because of the annoyance of the skells disrupting things. Maybe somebody thought it was fun, but the many, many level 20 to 30 ppl who died trying to get adventures in BB didn't think so.

TerjynPovar

The scary part is GMs don't consider it pandering to high level people, they enjoy killing low level people tons and tons.  The very first GM events I ever saw would be like bringing a level 50 orc into Crushbone and slaughtering people level 18 or below.

Then you'd kill it and get a Screaming Mace.  /yawn

The skellies in butcherblock were annoying also, even as a 65.  I'd spend the whole time trying to protect everyone else from the endless hordes.

Lorathir,

Then why not some place like, I dunno, Gorge of King Xorbb, or maybe Erud's Crossing? West Karana? How about Swamp of no Hope? Get people into these "dead" zones, let them stroke themselves off "Whoopie, I killed a level 65 skeleton and got 5 copper!", and let the poor newbies die to NORMAL mobs... Blah.

Terjyn,

Reminds me of a GM event in OT once on Saryrn. The zone got filled with level 60 golems that were immune to spells. All of them were clerics and apparently uniterruptable, so they were rather invincible. One was finally brought down, it's loot was some of that nodrop fine steel. Wooooo!

But the difference is... Overthere isn't a small newbie zone. AND nobody lost exp from the golems, due to them being coded as players. The GM's showed up a while later, handed out some okay stuff for those who had participated from the start. (The warrior who organized and led the kill of that one golem was awarded a cloak of flames. My Shaman got a froglok BP)

THIS event was just dumb. At least the level 50 G-fluxing aviak in South Karana was kinda funny.

Yeah Sartha, I agree. A more out of the way zone would be far better.

I remember years back (get's out the pipe and slippers) the Bristlebane server had a particularly bad week. The server kept crashing continuosly through the week and resulted in massive downtime.

As what I presume was a thank you for us having to put up with that, there was a GM event in WC. Basically, there were 20 or 30 large DE NPC's stationed right at the EC zone line killing everyone who zoned in.

They were level 50 to 55 with massive agro range that, once they killed someone, promptly walked back to the zone line to surprise another unsuspecting individual. All the newbies were having a ball that day, myself included, who died twice on a cr.

Ummm, maybe it's because Steamfont is one click away from PoK and one zone away from PoT where there are usually plenty of 60+ folks hanging around doing nothing.
