Title: 55+ Soloing Questions
Post by: Kish on January 02, 2004, 09:37:57 PM
Hello everyone!  I just turned 55 and outpaced the Dryads in Jaggedpine.  Anyone have any good solo spots for me and my warder?  Usually the solo spots at this level I know of are so far away from a non-porting class (Twilight, Nadox, Etc).  I tried Droga but the mobs there tear me up.  Thanks for your help!

Actually you can stay in JPF till 57/58, just move over to the gnoll caves.  Work your way in to the "drop off" to begin with, and later just invis your way there (working your way in helps you get to know the layout/residents a little to begin with).

The drop off mobs can all be singled at 57 (probably earlier) and are cake to take down.  (shammies/necros see invis... FYI).  It's an excellent place to solo and it builds faction nice and fast with the locals (and in SFG/etc. also)

I left when I dinged 59 (58 was slow though) and moved to the Dandolek in Dulak's Harbor).

It was a long time ago, but I used to beat up on the Umbrous Toilers in ME. I would park my pet on the north wall between the boathouse and the outpost and pull them up to me one at a time. Not the world's most exciting spot, but it let me solo in peace and quiet and they are easy kills.

I would imagine that Nurga would be ok at your level too, but I was never there at your level. I do Droga myself at 65, and most of it would be pretty nasty for you at level 55.

You should be able to handle Velks solo too, at least the first floor when you zone in. I remember dinging 59 there.

How do you solo pull the gnolls?  I tried there for a bit and it was easy at the entrance to solo pull but the further I went in the more adds I kept getting.  Would love to stay in JP but 2 gnolls is too much for me and my subpar equipment to handle.

Nurga would be nice. Dulak's is a run, but the first couple of boats are hard to beat for a few levels (exp and cash). Just bind at the lighthouse and beg guild porters to come get you if you need a lift:)

You may have to wait till 56 for singles deeper in, but 55 goes by pretty fast simply by camping the entrance (once the spawn is broken).

The reason the "drop off" is always mentioned is that all the mobs are static (first 9 anyways) and the pathing makes them all turn back towards the drop off when they run (or at least it used to)... and even if you get one that makes it up above, the warder can still follow and kill (safely)... you just won't be able loot).  Also the drop off is mostly warriors and higher /con casters.

At 57 I could take 5-7 at a time.  Just make sure you can handle 2 in a row (not necessarily at once) in case you mistime the cycle and get an add from the last one running past the 1st spawn point  (at the drop off itself).

Also, when single they are easy to kill.  So no twinking needed (harder at 55, but still easy if single).  At 57/58 I could take 3 at once (but would be low hp/mana at the end).  If I timed the cycle perfectly, I'd do 5-7 at a time and never have downtime (unless major buffs dropped at the same time).

Once you get used to it, it's also an excellent place to raise neglected skills (in case any have not maxed yet).
Title: Exping

I spent my solo time from 55-60 in Dulak and Nurga.

I Dulak I would do either Dandolak's or the guards/shipbuilders.  Non-Dandolak went LB around 57, but generally, the exp was good enough and the mobs were easy enough that it was still worth mowing through the occaisional LB.

I did Nurge from 58-60.  Things started going LB at 59.  Here's what I hunted there:  Upon entering, I saw up the waterfall to the right (ogre, max shrunk)... I'd set up camp there.  Right out from the set up point, there were two mobs near each outer, and a third further up the waterway.  While I was always able to pull single, the water in this first room gave me bad targetting problems/casting problems so you may end up having to take two at first.  Once they were dead, I'd just work my way down the tunnel.  Keep an eye on respawn time and just makes sure you're back at the beginning when they start to repop.  There are a couple wanders, but they stop often and its really easy to figure out where they are/where they respawn.  The exp was very nice, the loot was so-so (although there are salts and skins, for those that want them), and it was never camped.

If instead you turn right and drop down the waterfall (in Nurga), you get to some hunting with several named spawns that should be good for 49+.

If you want to stay longer, further in is another section that is mostly dark blue to 62, then a deep section that is dark blue to 65.
