Title: Spirit of Snow.
Post by: kattana on July 14, 2004, 09:52:20 PM
I keep wondering where would the best place for me to go at 54 to try for this spell. Are any locations soloable for me at this level.

Solo? Bazaar I think =(. At 54 you could grab a partner and do the vamp castle in TM. I 2 box a Druid and was able to take out Ren at that level. Takes you a while to get back to him but is doable. You basically have to clear the first level 3 times and go through 2 other named mobs. The upside is the xp is decent at that level and the loot isn't bad either. Oh, the point to all this is Ren can drop (in theory...the bastard x30 times) Spirit of Flame. Did a write up in the 49-59 hunting area you might want to check out. Other then that I think SoS can drop from a lvl 60 mob in ME. There are other places for both but they require more folks.

Snow can't be soloed at the level you can first use it - in fact, the only soloable mob that drops it is the previously mentioned one in ME.  (A pretty tough solo fight at 60, fairly easy at 65 -  but it's a rare spawn and Snow is a rare drop from it.)

I have checked the bazaar several times on the Mith Marr server and have never seen this spell for sell there. I am hoping that I can get. The big question is this spell worth getting? :?:

Main use I have for snow is on raids where it helps keep nasty_mob_01 from immediately stomping my pet if the MT dies.  The only place I have seen it  drop often is from mini-bosses in Ssra.  I don't think any of those mobs can be soloed at 65.

Is it worth getting - ~yes. Is it worth getting if you had to chose between buying it and then buying SoFlame 2 levels later - IMO no. Flame is also theoretically easier to get with fewer people (Ren/Lug or whatever his name is in The Deep). Both are small groupable, though getting to the mob in The Deep can be a pain.

This can't happen no matter what proc you use, unless there are no other melee players in range of the mob.  I can't think of a situation where that would be true - the AE mobs where you only have one tank in range aren't generally things it's worth keeping pets up for.

The only thing I regularly use Snow for is kiting in Fire - it works pretty well there.  It would be quite a nice spell at 54 if you could get it (the two second stun makes for a lot less damage a mob can deal out) but unfortunately the chances of a 54 BST getting it have always been slim.

Thats what i thought for a long time. Last time clearing however on TZ the tank died and my pet popped up in hott for the whole raid and stayed the 4 rounds he tanked (surprisingly long to be honest). There were other tanks in melee range and supposed to take aggro once the mt dies, but they could do that only after my pet was dead. Probably was just some kind of glitch, but i got tons of tells about it so it wasnt just me imagining things.

Anyway, i keep my pet up for nearly every fight and it normally survives them all, pet affinity made it even easier although calliav was the big change for it. Heavy aes are not an issue anymore, even if they get cast every 25 seconds.

Solo its tough and you are unlikely to obtain this spell. However its a fairly common drop from many Luclin boss mobs. Get a bunch of friends together and go kill Rhag1 in Ssra, 18 x L55's should be able to take him out and it is in his loot table.

Other than that its the bazaar for you. I wouldn't worry about it too much since once you get enough levels to buy Rellic you'll rarely (if ever) use it. Stick with Storm for now. My guild has about 18 copies of this spell in the guild spell bank at the moment (god only knows why..?).

One word - lag.  However, using Snow on the off chance that there will be server-side lag severe enough to cause this again is probably going overboard.

Thanks for all the input.  I have made it to the guy in the deep once and he dropped the dagger and not the spell.

Hey if you have pleanty of copies in the guild and on Mith marr could i have one.  (sad to beg but easier then getting a raid together for it hee)

I see that the Spirit of Flame spell may be the easiest route to go. I saw where that was listed on this section how to get.

If you're heart is set on it, more power to ya.  Personally, I tried camping for Snow and Flame at the appropriate times, and gave em the /rude after about a week.  Storm worked just fine right though to Rellic, and I saved a bunch of money by not buying it in the bazaar.

just my 2cp.

I never bothered getting either Snow or Flame.  Like the above poster, I used Storm until I got Rellic and don't feel like I missed out on anything.

On Fennin Ro, only seen one in the Bazaar going for 7k.. other than that.. most BST on this server do not have this spell, and opt to wait for the higher spell.

Now if I only had 7k extra I would buy it now ( just dinged 54 ), but I dont have anywhere near that cash right now... to many other things to get that I need.. but if anyone has an extra copy.. would be glad to own it.

I did get both flame and snow eventually from raid drops, but have only used them a few times. I was past needing them.

20pp.  Sheesh!  What's the ecomony turning into nowadays.  /sigh

Great for me...I have over 800k in the bank, first time I've had even 1/2mil pp.  Granted, there's bazaar upgrades I could use, but I'm trying to get 1 million pp first (all tradeskill drops too!) and work on tailoring.

If I hunted in newer zones, I'd have more money even - druid can't keep me up efficiently in SoF zones.

Yep, I always have money in the bank.

New expansion comes out, as a non-raiding beastie I'll purchase some nice things in the bazaar until I have nothing else I can buy, then I start saving until the next expansion comes out. Rinse, repeat!  :-D

I think it was a fluke.  It's normally 2-3k, just like flame.  I pass through the bazaar every couple of days and snatch up any upgrades I see for crazy cheap, because I don't have tons of plat sitting in my bank like you folks with more than 1 character. :)  In the last month, I've also picked up a Stave of the Eternal and Watchman's Breeches for like 200pp each.
