Title: DPS calculator
Post by: Animist on May 26, 2005, 02:58:51 AM
EDIT::

The ISP uplink seems to have problem and won't be up for a while. In the meantime, please use the following link to access the calculator:

http://202.85.94.25:8080/kit/eq/dpscalc.jsp (http://202.85.94.25:8080/kit/eq/dpscalc.jsp)

I will try to relocate it to somewhere less depending on the single ISP.
Sorry for any inconvenience caused.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello all,

Here is the link to a web-based version of Coprolith's DPS calculator written in Java and JSP:
http://218.189.206.26:8080/kit/eq/dpscalc.jsp (http://218.189.206.26:8080/kit/eq/dpscalc.jsp)

a little background. Coprolith has a lot of analysis based on many many parse done by community, and has written a theriotical DPS calculating worksheet in MS Excel - this greatly helps all of us on determining which weapons to be used.
However, because of the complexity of the data and formulas, users with only Excel Viewer (the "free" version of MS Excel) cannot utilize the calculator. So by the end of last year (or earlier? I forgot  :-P ) I have decided to write a version of calculator that can be used without other non-free software, and contacted Coprolith for that. Coprolith let me use the formulas and constants from his calculator and I had start working on it.
At first I was thinking Visual Basic (.NET or not, whatever) vs Java Applet - because I want to have something to run standalone. However both of these platforms require more or less some kind of installation (.NET framework / VB library / Java Runtime) and that maybe a hussle to users that not normally have experience on installing these. So I decided to do a web-version, only thing u will need to use is a valid web-broswer (IE6 or Firefox is what I have tested).
But since then I was quite busy on work (don't u all hate working? )... and I have been slacking whenever I didn't need to work  :-D ... Finally I have squeezed enough time to finish it up! (Sorry Coprolith taking so long to finish it hehe)

ok ok, enough bunny.

Usage? It is about the same as Coprolith's calculator (the newest one), using exactly the same formulas and constants - except 2:

A - Coprolith's calculation on proc DPS: not sure it is the parse that showing this or what, he uses the proc rate modifier on weapons to multiply BOTH weapon innate proc and augmentation proc. eg. If u stick a lifetap proc on ED then both Timelapse and Lifetap will proc 15% less because of the proc rate modifier of ED. However based on the parses on theSteelWarrior (and my little greatstaff of 4 winds parse) it seems to me that augmentation proc does not follow the weapon's proc rate modifier. I have changed the formula in calculating proc DPS for that.

B - Broken down the augments and weapons: now the weapons and augments are completely separated in terms of programming objects, I can precisely make use of different augment type / weapon restrictions. eg Slave's Hidden Orb does not have to be added as "SHO" and "SHO+2" - it is now "SHO" with 1x type4 and 1x type6 slot so u can add the augments separately.

C - Combat Effect added: these further enhance the proc rate of weapon, by 1CE = +1% (again from the discussion here and there, as I don't have any CE yet ). These attribute has been added in the calculation.

So here it is. Please use this thread to feedback / bug about the calculator. Much appreciated.

TODO:-
1/ More weapons / augments, especially those in DoN
2/ Fix exisiting erros in weapons - damage / delay / augment type etc etc
3/ Save function for storing ur attributes and weapon setups
4/ Comparison of weapon setups
5/ Prettier interface
6/ Add URL links to lucy/magelo for items / effects
7/ Find a more stable host to host the calculator
8/ Add "Tanking Attributes" like hp/ac or stun/aggro ability on weapons / augments - some of the tanking bsts will like that in considering weapons
9/ Your suggestion is very welcome!

Very nice.  I was playing around with converting this to openoffice a few days ago, but what you've done is better.

Would it be possible to save the settings so you don't need to reenter them each time? Or possibly disable the submit on change, otherwise it takes a while to enter it all.

Instead of manually adding weapons, you could get the item database from http://eqitems.13th-floor.org/index.php and automatically import all the bst usable weapons and augments from that.  I'd be willing to help do that if you want.

Thanks   :-)

I was considering about the save function as a TODO item... only problem is I have to either A) enable a forever-time cookie so that ur browser get the fields filled everytime - but it won't work if u are on another computer. B) make a user database for storing ur bst name and values - the problem is I have to implement username/password for saving and the login pages etc etc, and I am a slacker  :-D
I will disable the onChange=submit() for "Player's Statistics", while leaving "Weapon Setups' as it is, because I found it easier to just select a weapon and red the number hehe

About importing items, it is a good idea to do so. However as u may notice, I am a super-lazy-programmer and anything that I don't need I hate to parse  well unless eqitems.13thfloor can use POST to get the ONLY attributes I need in the calculation (damage, delay, type, etc but not something like weight, size) then I prefer to keep the data in a small text file for easier input  :-P

Thanks for ur suggestion and support!

Wow! This is a very nice utility.

Would love to see the two weapons I have, Clawhammer, Yarusha, the Storm's Fury and the augment Veintapper's Stone show up =P
I think with eqitems you can download their item db to use.

Nice Calc should be sticked or have Cop add your link to his with credit being given for comming up with this to you.

I'm kinda wondering how I compare to others so would love to hear where everyone else is comming out at.  Heh well non hardcore raiding bst that is since they of course have access to gear that is

One thing I really liked abt Copro's sheet was the ranking of the weapons that was available on the backup sheets.

Are you converting all this info to a txt file or would making it available to see be plausible?

Items / Augments have been added, keep them coming!

Wait a minute according to this Best DPS Weapons for Beast is Dexdger's, and Flints could this be right or am I Halucinating?
No u are not halucinating. For us bst who without innate double attack, weapon proc plays a big portion of damage - even bigger if u have any of weapon affinity / spell casting fury / combat effect. That's why ED is a so-much-DPS weapon for us (and bards) even its ratio is subpar at that level of gear. Dedgex cudgel and (fabled)flint dagger to me is like a mini ED  :-)

I forget to add copro's credit on the JSP... /apologize

I will consider the weapon ranking listing. But most probably it will have to be on a 2nd pages, or as a download file since i think the dpscalc as now is quite compact and good for printing. Stay tune! hope i squeeze some more time for this and not slacking  :-P

Modfied the listing page. Now should include the weapons that u have customized in the dpscalc page so that u can compare what u have auged against the other weapons.

Modified a calculation on Spell Casting Fury. I remember a patch ago they modified the AA so that if u crit, u crit for 200% damage for the 1st 2 levels. It was previously coded as 133% and 166% for the 1st 2 levels.

Listing page's weapon name now has tooltip to tell u ur weapon ratio / proc. I tend to keep it under 1 page width (I hate horizontal scrolling!) so I picked this tooltip approch.

Sorting is not done yet. It is far more troublesome to modify what I have written. Give me a day or 2 to think of a better way  :-P

RE: epic 1.5/2.0 clicky

I know they don't affect OUR direct dps, but had u decided to remove the dps addition the proc would add to our pet?  I found it actually useful in ranking them.

I ask, because atm, with level 70, 2k attack, 100% haste, 50% tanking 65 mobs, 20 CE, & max other AAs, the epic 2.0 ranks 6th primary & 3rd 2ndary.

Sorry but I don't quite get what you mean...

You mean that there should be a damage associated with our epic for the clicky effect? If so then someone would have to parse how much increase does the clicky gives over pet without the clicky. It is quite a challenging parse because pet's damage depends greatly on pet's level, pet's buff, focus items etc etc...

Of course, associating a damage with the proc isn't hard, hard part is to figure out the value.

I've seen CE (combat effects) mentioned every so often as of late but I have never seen any gear or augs with this on them.  I must admit most of my in game experience and AA is from low lvl PoP zones or earlier tho I do occasionally head to OoW and DoN instanced zones.  I have also tried to do a search on Alla's for items with CE on them but came up empty handed.

Could someone point me in the right direction to do a little more research on this or a link to some examples please and thanks.

Yup i've seen all of the others you have listed in various OoW stuff and DoN augs.  I can ever do searches for them specifically on Alla's but am unable to find a way to research CE specifically.  Am lookin for examples of gear with that effect or suggestion on how to research it.

Sorry if I derailed I can start a new subject if someone has problem with this.

Looks Great! really handy.

Any chance of getting Cleave & Ferocity levels included? I would think these have some effect on DPS?

One enchacement request:
For aug's using LT procs vs. pure DD damage, we're giving up some DPS for the LT heals.

It would be nice to show the amount of heals sec or minute, of course this would be a bit choppy, but at least
give us some quick reference on if to go LT or DD aug's. You'd have to include the appropriate levels of HA & HG
for this. this should make it a bit easier to show the full picture on what you'd get. All the formulas are know for
LT, crits rates, etc.

I'm considering, if I ever get to 70, to possibly go with Fist of Five Blades, and the  Gold Dragon Mace? both from Don
with all LT augs, so 4 LT augs in all. Be nice to be able to see how much healing to expect, vs. say going with +1 DMG aug,
or 2 LT and 2 DD augs.

I used this this weekend, to re-arrange what weapons I have. Dropped the wanning light katar, replaced it with a 2nd velium inlaid claw. When dual wielding, I use 2 VIC's or Copper Hammer in MH, VIC in OH.
Still use the witness of hate for 2HB.

When you get a chance can you please add the Damage augs like "Eye of the Onyx Guardian" and 'Blade Warstone".  They may require extra work since they change the damage on weapons instead of being a proc.  Interested in the Theoretical Dps these Augs have in compared to have a procing aug on a weapon.

kk.. noticed something that helped me figger out what was going on there.  In the listing, the weapons have none of the aug'd proc on there.  Adding them would be a pita I imagine bcs of epic having possible 2 etc.  When I threw 2.0 with the procs on it, it jumped way up there.  A something for down the road mebbe is to add a way for the aug'd procs to be figured in.

Still, very good work there.  Thank you for your efforts and time and energy :)

The calculator already has considered damage aug =) like the new type 9 ones from DoN etc etc. What I really need is the stats of the augments, because I am lazy to check allak/lucy/magelo/eqitems everyday, and I am not in a high end guild to dig out new stuff myself... If some weapons/augments are missing, please feel free to say and they will be there very soon =)

Kanan... I have modified the listing page for a bit sometime before, it now also shows ur aug'ed weapons from the previous page. That says, if you want to compare something customized (epic 2.0 with some nice augs in ur case) with other weapons without aug (like Allin's Mace or Crystal Hilted Shanai) u can just input ur stats, aug ur epic, click listing and u will see a yellow-highlighted weapon compared with others.

BTW sorting is now available =) just click the little green word at the top of the listing, and u can sort by that column. Things like "What should I use when I am in a melee disc mode?" "Which weapons perform best in my offhand as I consider ratio more important?" can now be found a bit easier =)

Sunkash, I understand what u mean, and that's why something like "Tankability" was on my TODO list... however they are at a lower priority. Just because I feel I would like to perfect the DPS side calculation 1st before I try to add other parameters to it to better evaluate the weapons. Keep suggestions in =)

BTW, I have digged some details from eqitems. Seems that their item XML file are quite easy to get with, sooner or later I will make use of it to resolve some missing weapons / augments problem.

However I have to find a way to get the proc effect from it tho. Currently the xml file only gives a number on "proceffect" field, eg Dirk of the Traitor (from coldain ring quest) has a proceffect of 1495. How to link this number to an effect is a challange to me  :-P

The proc won't crit, same as Shin of ancients because of the debuff associated with it.

Didn't notice that some damage procs associated with debuff will not crit... my bad

I will add code for checking if the proc is critable or not and reflect in the dps calculation. However I will need u guys help on whether certain proc is critable or not.

I will modify the proc type to be Debuff to reflect such proc.

Also note that Serpents Bite (the proc on Despair and some others) is unresistable, which makes those weapons somewhat better than the -200 resist you have them listed at now.

Fixed that.

I am still thinking how to implement "Unresistable" resist type... and to make use of eqitems' XML file for more accurate info on weapons / augments; the most challanging part is to find out the proc info of automatically.

Also as I have said earlier, I have added a proc type called "Debuff" - this refers to some procs that can have damage, but definitely cannot be crit. So if you have found any proc that matches this behaviour and I have it wrongly marked as normal DD, please kindly let me know. Thanks in advance

I have put up a testing version of the calculator at:

http://218.189.206.26:8080/test/dpscalc.jsp

This version will use eqitems as the item source and lucy as spell effect source.
Also I have modified the formula abit to reflect that some procs are Unresistable (like Serpent's Bite).
And the items / effects are now linked to eqitems / lucy respectively. Just click on the names.

I just got one thing to ask about this....what does the whole tanking pct mean? like what value would i put for that?

How much of the time do you spend as the primary focus of a mob? If you're normally dps in large raids, enter 0%. If you are the main tank in group situations, enter 100%. If you regularly offtank mobs, enter the percent of time you normally do that. If you just do dps without getting aggro, enter 0%. If you often steal aggro at the start of the fight (acting as slower can do this), enter an appopriate number...perhaps 5%.

When you're tanking, you're doing dps against the mobs defenses (i.e. riposte, parry) which effectively lowers the melee portion of your dps(proc damage stays the same). When you're attacking from the sides or behind the mob, you are bypassing those defenses.

On the flip side, riposte damage from you goes up when you're tanking. I don't know how much the formula accounts for that aspect, since riposte aa's aren't asked for.
Title: Re: DPS calculator
Post by: Animist on June 24, 2005, 12:54:11 PM
Nusa, thanks for the clear up. Those parameters are from the original calculator from Coprolith, you may find more detailed information from the sticky thread here... I am just porting that ms excel version to a web version, and fix a few formula here and there.

Aye, the calculator haven't inlcuded the riposte conditions like AA. However I would imagine that won't be very hard to figure out, provided that I can dig the percentage vs skill info from somewhere (like 200 riposte skill vs 250 riposte skill, is that a linear percentage increase in chance of riposte attack?). But if I have to consider the mobs' level then this formula will be a bit hard to figure out without some lengthy parses.

Keba, that's a good point. I may exclude the items with "NO RENT" and "NONE" races so that to speed up the loading time. For non-MAGIC weapons I would like to listen to the general public that it is good or not to exclude them, or given a switch / button to toggle them on / off. Thanks for the suggestion!  :-)

Just as a slight clarification, if you're attacking from the sides the mob will still dodge, parry, block, etc.  The difference with attacking from the sides is that you won't take riposte damage (I can't remember if the mob will riposte and you don't  take damage from it or whether it just won't riposte).  Strikethrough (the effect on gear) gives a chance to ignore any one of these and still make an attack (although you can still miss after a successful strikethrough).

Make a little bit more modification.

1/ Now you can swap your duel wielding setup, provided that both of your weapons are usable on either hand. Just press the 'X' on the right hand side of your DW dps listing.

2/ Also it now displays the damage bonus of your weapons. Previously the DB is taken into calculation but it is not shown.

3/ About the icon thing... The PNG from eqitems are not transparent-background so it looks kind of odd when you are using IE. Firefox displays it fine. I have tried using lucy as the source of the icon image, but it seems that lucy has some counter-dos policy so sometimes I will get the icon image no problem, sometimes it returns with a no-cookie error.

I am planning to add "Accuracy" and melee focus (Ferocity and Cleave) to the calculation.

Anyone has any good parses around these parameters? I have only found one from TSW, but those parses are very outdated and tbh, the sample size is just too small to make any concrete conclusion.

From my perusing of various message boards:

+10 Accuracy increase attack accuracy by 1%.  Ferocity adds 3% to double attack rate per level.  Cleave increase crits by about 0.5% per level

No guarantees that's accurate, but seems to be the conventional thinking.

Thanks for the sticky  :-)

I have added the download / upload options to the calculator.
Basically you click "Download" at the bottom of the page, it will pop up a little save window to save a text file named "mySetup.txt". You can rename it to whatever to save multiple setups.
Then later on you can click "Upload" and specify which setup file you want to use. It will load your file and populate the stats, weapons and augments to the calculator.

Just remember, the setup files are saved at your very own PC. The server itself won't save any information entered.

Enjoy  :-D

Has anyone have the parse on Improved Beastial Frenzy yet?

In the meanwhile I will use +3% da per rank of IBF as per Tastian parsing on the test. Feel free to try plug ur new AA into the DPS Calc and see how much increase is it.

Did my own parse over a night of grouping. Combined all fights into one parse and came out with a double attack rate of roughly 33%. That is with Fero V tho so would assume the extra 5 levels do indeed add 3% per level for an increase of 15% extra DA.

Every parse I've seen and done puts improved BF at 3% per rank since the last change on beta up through going live.

I will try to relocate it to somewhere less depending on the single ISP.

I did an 8-hour parse at IBF1.  Got 18% DA. I didn't bother parsing at IBF2; I can do another parse at IBF3 tonight and see if I am at 21% or 24% - there should be enough hit data to verify that.  Someone with IBF5 could just to the parse as well - but no one said differently in the [IBF AA thread (http://www.beastlords.org/forums/index.php/topic,5738.0.html)], and in a post above yours in this very thread, Tastian has said, "Every parse I've seen and done puts improved BF at 3% per rank since the last change on beta up through going live." so I assume that he, at least, has run parses.

items should be updated as soon as eqitems has it in their items.xml... currently the system design will fetch the items list from eqitems automatically, instead of manual addition... wait a bit and you will see it  :-)

Not to derail (And if this is the improper place to post this, please delete this post), but the mission is not that hard.

One person plays the Juggernaught, everyone else plays the warrior classes. The juggernaught runs ahead and aggros the goblins, trains them as far away as possible, then the warriors go to try and hail the gnomes. Using the 'Find' command will actually give you a glowing trail to the hostages.

Those in/near the jail area are the easiest to get.

sorry dummkopf but procs-related info are not fetched automatically... eqitems does not store any spell info so it is hard to do that automatically. however I have already made that if a proc from a weapon (that's beastlords usable, of course) is missing from the database (which I update manually), I will get an email about it. so I have just added the Fiery Strike V for the lovely cryptwood tonfa!

please let me know if there is any short-coming on it hehe.

Hello all.
First off I'd like to thank all who have put forth there time and effort to help so many of our eq community.
As I  Iooked at the dps calculator and entered my information I noticed that it ask if you have the aa spell casting fury. I understand that that it would increase our dps but how is this figured in?  In this calculation is it assumed that you are casting your dd, dot. spells at the max number of times per engagement ? I've read through this forum and see no information about this. And was just wondering if the estimated dps would be way less for me being I useally on cast 1 are 2 spells during normal combat. I appreciate any information helping me to better understand this great tool and how to better use it.

  Regards,
  Stonezshade
Title: Re: DPS calculator
Post by: Kanan on January 24, 2006, 04:39:25 PM
the scf is primarily figured into this by the amount of critical procs that you hit.  It does not take into account your spell casting, because this is such a widely variable figure (what foci do you have, what nuke are you casting, etc).

Basically, this shows your max theoretical weapon dps.

Very nice calculator and thanks  :-)

I just entered a "barbed knuckleblade of brutishness" for the secondary weapon and at level 70 I see that the dmg bonus is quoted at only 4. I thought sinister strikes gave half the primary dmg bonus and should thus be 7 or am I wrong ?

Still once again this is a very nice tool and thanks for all your hard work

Offhand damage bonus (after you got sinister strike, of course) depends on the delay of the offhand weapon. And since barbed knuckle has a pretty low delay (17 iirc) it is only 4. Plug some higher delay weapons and you will see the difference  :-)

Hello,

I really appreciate your work, it's a really good way to compare weapons, thank you  :-)

I am wondering if you could manage to add the type 5, slot 30 for our 2.0 epic coming from Demiplan. I am wondering what could be the mainhand and offhand damages with this augment.

For the record it's :
Delay: 0 Damage: 2
I guess the rest of the stats are useless cause wining no accu or other stuff modifying the calc.

Just in case
Delay: 0 Damage: 2
AC: +10 Str: +10 Dex: +10 Sta: +10 Wis: +10 Agi: +10 Fire Resist: +5 Disease Resist: +5 Magic Resist: +5 Poison Resist: +5 HP: +30 Mana: +30
 Attack: +30
  Mana Regeneration: +3

thank you  :-)

Too bad that the epic page drops extremely rare. Since beginning of december we got 3 drops (and killed Devlin every 5 days) and that page is for all hybrid classes at once so that more classes than for any other page want it. The page is a hand in (basicly a mini quest) and then the epic is changed via an invisible augment in an invisible augment slot. You have to wield the epic during hand in, if you dont do that the page is used up without changing your epic.

Anyway, with the rarity of epic page drops it will be hard for most bsts to get this page, especially if you consider that the effect for other classes is bigger than for us.

JSP stuff are server-side, and should not have any problem with any browser. Maybe you mean Javascript? If so then you will have to turn down the security level of your browser setting (to medium at least). You can check if there is any Javascript error by checking the status bar (usually at the bottom) of your IE. Or you can use Firefox to play with it  :-)

It was my fault.

eqitems is using a new data structure for the item database, and I didn't aware of. The automatic program deleted all items first but was not able to import them due to the change in data structure, thus rendering empty weapon list. I will be more careful about this kind of "automatic" mechanism next time.

Excellent modifications to Cop's original Animist, I have had the excel version for quite some time, though it's beginning to go quite out of date on me. Finally checked back for an update and saw the work you've done with it, and just had to compliment you on the changes.

I did have a few things here however, one a slight bug notice, and a couple of suggestion/requests:

First of all, the recommended level on augments can downgrade a weapon's effectiveness, and I notice this isn't taken into account. Specifically I use a Fabled Steel Hilted Flint dagger in my primary, and I've auged it with the Vein Sap Mineral from DoN. Unfortunately, at lvl 65, the Vein Sap Mineral has a recommended level of 70, therefore I lose a damage point on the dagger as a result, and your calculator doesn't seem to take this into account at present.

Second, (and I know this is a bunch more work, just curious though) what the odds of getting a ranking for augments as you do for weapons would be for MH/OH?

Thirdly, Is there some way to identify groupable vs. raid target drops? I know this is dependant in part on group make-up/gear/aa/experience etc, but I, as a lvl 65 non-raiding guild person, don't have many options at raid only drops, so drooling over them in a ranking is kind of pointless, when I would be more interested in which of those weapons ranked higher than mine, I might actually be able to get, as opposed to those that there's not much of a chance of ever getting.

Calculator is working for me, but I can't seem to upload my saved setups.  I click on Browse to point it to the file location, and then click Upload.  The page refreshes, but doesnt change at all to reflect the saved setup that I'm trying to upload.  If I'm trying to upload to a blank calculator, it stays blank.  If I've entered some data and try to upload, the data I'd entered stays.

Any idea what i'm doing wrong? :?

Well, I solved my own problem from above.  I still can't get it to upload my setup, but I can just copy the entire web address for my setup and paste it as a link in a word doc for later use.  I can then open that link another day and, presto, there's my setup.

Looks like that eqitems.13th-floor.org does not have this weapon in their database yet. And since the calculator grab the database from it everyday so it is easy to wait for eqitems to have it in their database 1st. I can manually add the weapon atm but it will then be erased when the calculator is doing the update.

Anyway, give me a day or 2 to think of a way to keep some "customized and odd" items instead of re-grabbing the database everyday.

Sorry for the problem  :|

Its a typo, it is Zun'Muram Katar, off of battlemaster rhorious in RCoD. At least on allakhazam that is how its listed.  Not on lucy, magelo or eqitems though, oddly enough.

Yeah, sorry.  :P  It is a typo.  If you look at my Magelo, which is the authentic kind, you will see the weapon, and all of the right stats.  I thought I was extra carefull in putting all the info correctly onto this forum, but guess I screwed up..  lol  Anyways, thanks Animist :)

Oh, and yeah.  I got it out of RCoD.  Can't remember the name of the guy, but it involved an epic 1.5 fight, which included the Boss man, two (or was it three) stone pounder guys, a snake, and a goat...  I'm hoping it's an upgrade from my DFC...  :P  The 125 proc is very nice, and it seems that it goes off once or twice a fight.  I've actually seen it go off four times in a row and never seen the DFC do that, so I figure the proc may be quicker.
Title: Re: DPS calculator

Got it done. This weapon is now manually added into the database, and marked as "customized" and won't be deleted while doing database update  :-)

However, since the weapon is not in eqitems' database, when clicking on the item link it will definitely return an error as the item ID is a mock-up ID.

enjoy!  :-D

Any eta when this will be adjusted for 75 and have the double attack factored in?

I was wondering the same thing  :-D I love the calculator. It gives me an idea of what to get for weapon upgrades and what to pass on :)

Well... that's an embarassing question...

In short, I am kind of semi-retired now. I still keep reading news, forums and such, sometimes I even login to level my toon... but I don't think I can level her to lv75 to do the parsing etc in a short time (only lv71/29% atm).

I will see what I can do for the calculator for now. Maybe project the level effect for lv71~lv75 from the previous levels, and do the same for the weapon skills; however that means it is not based on parses and may have a large discrepancy with the actual figures.

Or I should just release the code and let you guys maintain so I can completely retire from the game  :-D

Good luck on that one. I've requested the source about 10 times...he hasn't even responded to my PMs....

Ok let's get it done. I will try my best to be rational.

I have only got 2 PMs from you, and you have posted 2 times you want the source code for it. If 4 times is "about 10 times" then I have nothing to say.

TBH, I don't play the game now everyday, and that's why I haven't come back to check the forum frequently. When I was at it I responsed to request about adding stuff to it everytime. I am sorry that I missed your requests, or some other's request, but I was trying my best.

You know what? I paid my time converting the formula from Coprolith (thanks again), got my item feeder done, manually input all the proc effects and write the front end pages. It is very hard for me to just "release" the source code; I know it is a community thing (parses, analyses, and points and hints from Coprolith), but I want to find someone who shows his capability and knowledge to understand the shit I wrote as it is not very beautiful coding.

I was feeling really sad to see this last comment to me.

Think I will depart for now and thanks for helping me to make the decision.

/rant off

I will briefly list out the whole thing here. Whoever wants to host it please let me know by posting here (I always missed the new PMs) - and please forgive me for not checking the forum everyday. I have to work.

a/ The core library for the related objects (weapons, augments, procs, formulas etc) and the code for reading from database. Written in Java (1.4 or above).
b/ The jsp pages that served as front end to the library. Written in JSP (spec 1.1 or above) and a little css and javascript.
c/ The item feeder for reading item database from EQItems and importing them to the database, triggered by cron job. Written in Java.
d/ A few shell scripts that link the above stuff together, and email me if there is anything goes wrong (not including link down of course...).

Here is the stuff you will need to host this thing:

1/ MySQL database and a few tables, for storing the weapons, augments and procs info. I used MySQL 5.0 myself.
2/ A Resin application server for hosting the jsp pages. Of course that would include the jdbc driver for MySQL. Theriotically any Java application server / servlet container should be able to do so.
3/ A stable ISP connection! This is the most important thing. I am using my office server to host it and sadly the IPS connection is not stable enough, obviously.

That's it.

By the way it is pretty easy to calculate the new double attack chance, the formula is (level + skill)/500 to get the chance to double attack in percent. It is safe to assume for any given level 71 to 75 that you allways have max skill since you normally get the 5 skillups per level with the first 5 hits (no need to visit a trainer). So it would feasible to just add the double attack from the double attack skill as a function of your level.

New weaponskills of course are a different thing and i dont know the effect of them on your melee dps, nor that of the added AA skills.

Of course a big thank you to Animist to keeping this service up, it is unique in all of EQ and i certainly hope someone is going to keep that alive, sadly myself doesn't have the necessary skills to do that.

Aye, I'd also like to thank Animist for his time and effort.

I suggest that you create a open source project in sourceforge or equivalent as a way to both document and preserve the technology. Perhaps more than one person would want to host copies? I don't see that as a bad thing.

(I don't have the hosting resources required, but the rest of it sounds mostly within my existing skillset.)

Just putting it on sourceforge isn't enough, there needs to be someone capable to drive the project.

The other thing to be aware of is that the formulae are approximations that are getting old.  I'm sure there have been new discoveries by other melee classes (eg I have seen some on the berserker forums.)  The existing flaws are going to get worse as things scale up in level.  So it needs to be someone that is willing to perform and examine parses and come up with some formulae that still work at level 75.

I would be interested in hosting the project, but I can't really commit to anything until I view the code and see what I'm "getting myself into," so to speak.

As for parsing, that obviously could be handled by other people in the community.  I don't expect to easily find someone who can:

1. Have the equipment to host the calculator
2. Have the ability to reprogram the code
3. Be willing to parse all the data themselves

However, I can imagine finding a couple of people who are willing to pick up one or two of those tasks.

/counter-rant time

It is awfully hard to find someone who can understand your code if you don't even reply to those who wish to try in earnest.

Believe it or not, my requests (and you recognize that I tried 4 times to even talk to you about the source, and yet you never replied to my PMs or posts except now to rant about it) were not a way for me to harass you or push you over the edge to make you leave the forum. I was requesting the source so that I could help alleviate some of the burden of solely managing that utility.

I have to work too. A lot of us do. I understand that you're busy. But I see someone else post on the same thing I've posted on and PM'ed about, and still never get a reply from you, and yeah I may say something to the effect of "you're wasting your time", which is basically what I meant with my post above.

/counter-rant off

That aside, we have a very strong community here, and obviously we have people with the interest, skills, and means to support a community development effort to keep this wonderful utility that you have blessed us with up and running.

Only DPS calc I have in spreadsheet format is the one posted long ago on Monkly-Business that I believe pertains pretty much exclusively to monks due to the formula calculations.

If you're interested, PM me and I can email you a copy.

Looks like this DPS calculator is now broken beyond usefulness. It's weapon database no longer includes all the modern weapons people actually have.

it's still good up to a certain point in progression, but since Animist got annoyed, it's no longer supported. I'm not sure who's willing to take it up again. There were a few people who offered to continue the project, but I think that it's fallen by the wayside.  :-(

The weapon database was working up until a couple days ago.  I don't know what database it's pulling from, I thought it was from eqitems.com.  Their site still works fine.  :| /shrug

Well, it's down.....again.

Too bad no one here is into sharing code. Could be a really useful utility if not for the frequent downtime and slow connectivity.

If anyone does have this code, please let me have a copy so I can build a stable web service on my web hosting box.

EDIT:

http://forums.beastlords.org/index.php?topic=528.0 is where copro's spreadsheet is on these boards.

Can this not be used to make the dps calc'r again?  It will require a fair amount of update, since I think the level cap was 65 when Copro retired.

I know that Animist had talked about linking to the eqitems db for the weapons database.

I really like having this tool available and would love for it to be revived by someone.
