I have been grabbing the instanced missions Audience with the Warmaster, The Price of Knowledge, and Dragonbane Phalanx(sp). It seems I get a named one in every 5 missions with the named dropping an essence maybe every other time. Is there a better place to farm these essences?
Also any suggestions on farming essences for tier 4 and 5 are appreciated.
I can't STAND doing that instanced crap. I did it for 4 hours, got nada from price of knowledge... gods what a crap time that was. Every s.o.b. in the game ganks FoS named as soon as they pop, tho, so it's the only option. Still, gods i hate it. Any better advice would be loved here too

For T3 essences I did the first Jaled'Dar mission (Audience with the Warmaster), Bite popped about 50% of the time for me (course I was running 4-5 instances at a time). I got most of the 40 gems I needed (Beastlord, Ranger, Chanter, Mage and Necro) in that mission, rest I got in FoS from named there.
Grab a ranger or druid friend and hit FoS. It's the easiest/fastest way (for T3) to go about it.
I set up south of Jaled on the edge of the plateau. From there you have easy access to spawns of Naskado, Oracle (confrimed) and some animals (ancient bonegrinder and Festersting confirmed). You just have to be quick so that someone with a druid or ranger friend doesn't swoop in and snatch them!
t3 chest is doable w/o too much work from the Lt. at the top of Kurns. For a group geared bst, you'd want some friends along. What I'd recommend doing is getting a book, killing the ph until the named pops & call some friends ;p
For fairly well geared bst, just break out the merc.
I grouped with a few people and got my T4 bp essence from murdunk's last stand instance.
So far I've got a full suit of tier 3 on my Bst and 3 on my wizard. I've gotten all of them by running around FoS killing anything I see. I have been lucky 2 times with essences rotting in the early parts of the morning when only like 7 people are in the zone. If there are more than 20, then I don't even bother being out there. As others were saying people ganking nameds super fast with their trackers.
With a tier 5 tank merc and tier 5 healer merc on reactive. My Bst/Wiz combo burns them down pretty good. I only have to use FPoS on my merc as a HoT when fighting Fluttershade due to that annoying AE Silence.

How do you pop multiple instances at a time? I'm assuming you grab one instance with each toon (multiboxing), but how do you get all of them together to engage the named? You can remove yourself from the mission if the named doesn't pop, but how do you join a mission with the toons that have nameds up?
Sorry if it's a noob question, but I left EQ around the time that instances became the rage, and guess I haven't learned the tricks. I have a few more slots to fill on my little multiboxed army, and I just finished FoS progression and I'm a little burned out on the FoS experience...
There's some goofiness w/ the FoS ones where I think you can request w/ only one player (Camikazi can provide details), and it only takes one person to keep it open. Maybe it's request w/ 3, and can remove 2 of them.
You can also /taskaddplayer playername to add somebody to any task, unless they "lock" at a certain point.

You can request any of the 5 with one person and it only takes one person to keep them open, and as far as I can tell the first and second mission only lock once the final mob is dead (since that accomplishes all the goals of the mission) the rest have hails or turn ins so won't lock till then.
I run 4 missions (one on Beastlord, Ranger, Monk and Mage) and hope I get a max of 3 (takes me and ranger to kill named safely) then I just move characters around to get Bst and Ranger together in same instance and monk and Mage holding other instances open.
I take the named solo with merc, but he's a tough one and I used fortify companion and switch tank with pet and myself. I can't trust the cleric to keep me up solo, therefore I use dragonscale and promised on my pet while i'm tanking, so when I peel off, it can last until I get healed.
I did all T3 from Audience with the warmaster for both mains. Wrists are the pita rare here though, and I probably dropped an additional 20 odd essences while waiting fo rthe last wrist.
T4 from various mobs in Toskkirak
T5's from the Precipice of war instance - Chadra can pop 1 in 3 average, she drops every essence although the bP is ass rare and I haven't got my T4 bp yet.
Hehe, I absolutely refuse to do anything but instances for the actual essence drops now. They seem to be pretty rare but I HATE competition >.<
With the nerfed drop rates the rate of drop in instances is retarded. /shrug
The good news is those lovely non visibles that drop are great for making friends.
I think I do audience/brood of an emperor dor tier 3
I do hiding in plain sight for tier 4
and for tier five the same as karve - precipice of war (allthough if I can find a really high dpser and CoD is open I will go and split names from deep in with sk and just farm 4-6 phs).

Good to know, those posts on Alla were confusing the hell out of me, I was waiting 15 min and killing around 25 mobs just ot be sure :P
I must admit I've changed my tone on the instanced stuff. Thanks to the wonderful advice of Camikazi I box 3 chars (4 if it's available) and get 3/4 instances. Killed Bite a LOT of times now, but the drop rate isn't as cool as I'd like. I'm only getting them for my zerker, but missing only bp and 1 wrist now.
Tier 3 bp comes from Bite? Or do I need to camp the KL named?

From what I have seen instanced named can drop any and all essences, I got all my BPs for T3 from Bite
Yeah all the named instance mobs seem to be able to drop any essence but the drop rates are horrible because of the random drop rate per slot.
If I wanted to really camp a specific slot I personally would go with a camp that dropped that slot in one of the several zones where they drop.
In reality for my situation the instances are the way to go.

the named golem is easy to find and get to. I believe he spawns and paths around the end of that long hall that leads from the zone line to the big central circle that drops down a few levels. We did that mission a few times and the laggards always aggro him and I have to run back quickly and kill him hehe.
I also do the hatchery but the named is a pain to split out for mteh other mobs.
Have you tried the Hiding in Plain Sight mission since patch? I have run 12 instances so far and not one named, has he always been that rare or am I just having back luck.
I havent tried it recently but I think I had some pretty horrible streaks and then Id get him back to back to back. SoD and SoF are really random when it comes to names and drops. 12 instances seems like a huge bad luck streak though. Are you waiting the full 15 minutes? I usually make sure I satrt caounting from whe nI get to teh circle camp just to make sure I give a full 15 minutes.
I bet you just have sucky luck like my mage friend >.<

I have waited around 20 min (or more when i get distracted watching TV) counting from when I zoned into instance.
got a named after 4th instance and dropped medial wrist - grats poisonwaters (my sk).

I will try some more tonight but I have to run tosk theme progression for some friends so I may not able to squeeze too many in. One thing I have noticed is that medials are rare. I think out of like 15 kills maybe ive gotten 2 or 3 medials ;/ I'll try and keep better count.
So I did a few more of these
1st night 5 instances 1 named.
2nd night 6 instances 0 named
3rd time 2 instances 0 named

I got faction for Precipice of War at last, 1st attempt, Chandra spawned just before 15 minutes.
Me and my trusty 84 mage.
Loaded the mage pet with AA buffs, clicked every clicky I had, put both mercs (now T5's) to reactive and went to town.
What a fight, she hits hard and the rampage was mad, I live through the last minute of the fight with about 200hp and her on 1% of life, all pets dead, me trying to get nukes off between summonings.
I landed a 5k and 11k crit and she died! It was a rush, I have to say tho, damn close. I'd recommend either lots more aa's and a merc tank / friends/real tank for her but shes doable.
The really nice thing was she dropped the T5 BP essence :)

Killing her with my warrior box + bst and 2 merc healers. Warrior is SoD group geared and tanks much better than merc tanks. oh, t3 arms/legs essence farming: lich named in hatchery was pretty easy honestly. Took for-bloody-ever, but it was easy camp to do. Just set up on far side of room, up on the ledge, pull the near guy up there, then one on left if facing the trio over there, then pull the remaining duo, burn the non-PH, then slowly kill the PH to break the spawn up.
I think I got like 6 AAs camping it =/ Took 4 spawns to get my essence. Got all 3 other drops that he had too. Got a lotta reading done too ;p
t4 arm/legs essence farming: another easy, yet boring camp: ulgren T-something. He's alone. I took him pretty unprepared (I was mostly buffed when he agro'd (I was sitting too close), but had to do haste midfight), but handled him.

Yeah I have been gearing up friends and trying to get medials for my sk but I said 'WTH' and tried this yesterday.

I tanked with my 85 sk. 1000 aa and 4630 ac 23900 hp unbuffed. He only died 1-2 times out of all the killing we did (was pulling doubles on trash too and sometimes getting add with the named). The problem is his hp is rather low and so if he got a nasty round he would come close to dropping. Id say even if you had a few hundred less ac and a few thousand more hp it would be easier. /shrug.

Defensive disc is great for this type of stuff, it would be 50/50 fight without one for my warrior. He got decent grp gear (0 raid pieces) and 800's AAs. Aggro seems to be much better than with merc tank, I can fully burn with my bst and not care aggro too much.

Another good thing about these instances are, that aug drop rates are doubled compared to non instanced zones (so I have been told).

This morning I went to the Hatchery to camp Eazack for a chest essence. Spawned on first pop and then again on the next pop and then yet again! I don't think I've ever seen 3 back to back to back named anywhere before. Got his ring, 2 augs and a chest essence, not bad for only being on-line for an hour before work! :-D
geared 3 complete char and many other I helped to get dropps. I camped every camp.
T3 Bp = hatchory / Kurns
All other T3 = Kurns
T3 hands wrist = Kurns / slact
T4 = Tock center pull all 5 named
T4 Leg = upstairs
T4 Bp = RCC tree camp
T5 BP Korafax any BP dropper they all are ok drop rates
T5 other drop = 5 spawn in RCOD
OK, so I wanted a better mana/hp regen click for my beast so I decided to run Cruel Overseers until I got Graknor to drop his earring. I also need just about (note, just about) any type essence, so I figured this was a great way to kill two birds. I had an unusual amount of play time last Saturday and started churning out instances first thing in the morning. Took most of the day until raid time started, but I finally got my earring after like 8 or 9 named spawns. Along the way the pig also dropped three T4 chest essences. Great! That's the only freakkin slot that I have completed to T5 on both my toons! :x
Oh well, I made some guildies happy, but it still burns my butt that I got that many essences to drop and couldn't use a damn one.
