Quick question.

How do you manually click off BV?  I never have found the icon to click.  It is on my warder, but not anywhere in my song or buff box.

BV is a disc with a recourse effect that hits our pets.

Click the icon in your combat abilities window.

I do almost everything from the keyboard except click burn discs, click on targets in ext. target window, and loot.

Alt-~ - nuke multibind
1 - attack
2 - melee spam key (Viv, Swipe, Rush, C. Strike, Bite/Raven's)
3 - Assist
4 - Pet Attack
5 - Assist
6 - pet back
7 - natural invis
8 - FPoS macro w/ tell to recipient and bstchat
9 - FD
10 - Protective Spirit Macro (block viv, def, unblock viv)

All burn discs clicked manually, w/ macro for Empathic Fury for viv blocking.
All non-multibind spells used manually.

i do almost everything from keyboard also.  mouse is basically for targeting and for spinning around to face target.

my spells and combat abilities are all tie to number keys 3 and 5, so i can easiliy toggle back and forth spamming the two keys with one hand while i work the mouse with the other.

I tell ya, once you go mulitbind, you'll never go back.  its good stuff

Instead of having separate assist buttons for raid and group you can just /assist main.

Assists group or raid assigned assist.

That's what I used for years too.

This thread is more about how to hit fewer buttons to dps than it is about getting the best dps. There are some other threads on burn dps...shouldn't be too hard to find.

Anytime you combine multiple functions on one key you lose flexibility in using those functions separately, unless you also have separate keys set up. On the other hand, for someone who really is a lazy player (or a boxer with too much to handle), then lazy-man keys will probably improve that person's dps by using things they've been ignoring.

click on targets in ext. target window

May be teaching Grandma etc. etc. but you can access targets in the extended target window by using Ctrl + F1, Ctrl + F2 etc.

there are other threads about the theory behind dps'ing, but I haven't see a lot spelling out technical setup.  It can be difficult to translate theory into implementation with EQ's clunky system.

Personally i need to control all my clicks through keyboard, which is why i use "lazy man" keys.  there is too much lag on raids to get quick clicks with a mouse, and that is with a pretty good connection.

I was just trying to prevent the high-jack from your topic to dps theory.

If you're experiencing mouse-lag, it's got nothing to do with bandwidth/connection...you've got too much going on for your cpu/gpu to handle at a good frame rate. Turning off eye-candy is important for raiding with less powerful machines.

I'm a keyboard player too, at least for the common combat stuff. I've nothing against the combo hotkeys concept, so long as people UNDERSTAND what's happening when they use them. The only thing I'd never do is use up hotkeys for things like single-spells or single-discs that are already available on the keyboard (alt-# or ctrl-#)....there aren't enough hotkeys to go around as it is, even with all 4 bars up.

combining things into single hotkeys has actually freed up hotkeys for me.

tying all my combat strikes to one key means i can put things like Feral Strike, Bite of the Asp, Chameleon strike on back pages.  I don't need to know when they refresh, since I will fire them all off by mashing my combat key anyway.

Tying all spells and combat strikes to 2 keys actually means I don't have to look at certain parts of the screen at all.  This frees up my own mental bandwidth for things like watching HP bars, reacting to situational developments etc.  It also lets me act as raid caller for things like timers, event emotes, etc, without seriously impacting my performance.

I've tried to apply basic theory when I set up the keys.  The idea is to have the keys automatically fire off certain things in the correct order.  In the heat of battle i can't always remember is BA works better with Nature's Fury or if I should use EF.  Locking it into a hotkey means i can research it hard one time.

I definately agree it is important to understand basic theory and I am still learning there.  no set of hotkeys is gonna turn a low dps player into top dps if they don't apply the keys properly.

Let me know if you have any ideas for different burn order, especially in my BA and EF keys

My protective disc key is another one I am fussing with.

i just wanted to throw out there that i see a couple people having assist and pet attack separate.  I use a 3 line assist.
/assist main
/pause 5
/pet attack

Oddly enough without the pause it seemed to me to almost blow by the pet attack(due to targeting/assist lag), but that was way back in SoD when i made this.  Either way this should free up another keybind for some of you.

It won't for me!  Muscle memory is so ingrained that I need to be careful what goes onto my pet attack/pet back off key slots on alts!  I like having it separate for having pet offtank while soloing, but I don't do that too too much anymore.

I have to say I wouldn't want my /pet attack on my asssit key since a lot times i don't use my warder on trash clears in raids. Its a pain if he dies and if he does its always right before the named is pulled. Also a lot of the trash dies quickly so its just not worth it imo to send him in. Alsoi what if the mob you are fighting is like some of the mobs in Conv raids that have a huge DS, I will use assist to target the mob but then I just want to cast, and I know me, I will forget to hit /pet back in those situations.

I use a self and pet attack key tied togeather but then again I hardly raid with my bst thus I hardly worry about my pet dying. Mine is set up like this.

/attack
/pause 10
/pet kill

I always wait for assist to be called before using it unless I'm the one tanking (gasp... do bsts really do that?).

I was merely meaning that it frees up another key.  And truthfully i end up manually targeting and hitting a(what i changed my attack hotkey to) to attack if i dont want to use pet on the raid mobs.

I am sooooooooo tired of mashing 8 million buttons, and am desperate for a means of simplifying things!  Forgive my ignorance, but could someone please explain exactly how you bind abilities/skills/spells to certain keys, especially multiple abilities/skills/spells to one key?  I am inparticular interested in binding our main nukes to a single key.

Thanks in advance for any assistance,

Originally the default attack key was A. I've no idea when the default got changed.

I seem to remember it being A for a long time at least back in SoL era and maybe past PoP but I also can't remember when it changed.

It was after I started during PoP.  I think it was changed maybe even as late as DoDh.

A trick I use on heals, slow, shout, & some others is a macro with multi cast lines.  I have my heal on spell gem 6, so;

/cast 6
/cast 6
/cast 6
/cast 6

this saves me from having to watch for fizzles and hit it again, one click and it tries to cast it 4 times.  The extra lines just get a "you can't use that command while casting" message once one of the commands doesn't fizzle.

I have a whiffing sound I use solely as an audio alert for fizzles. It's so automatic now my conscious mind hardly notices fizzles anymore...when I hear the whiff, I instantly recast whatever spell it was I just cast....my finger is still on the right key, since fizzles happen right away.

I also still have my audio alert for invis failing, even though we now have fixed invis. It still comes in handy sometimes when I use IVU potions.
