Looks like this was fixed on the May 24th patch, switched the fade and call parts around so it will actually summon your pet to you if it's on aggro (well, I guess 97% of the time it will at max rank, which is good enough for me). Really handy for repositioning now.
(And if already brought up/linked elsewhere, oops!)
Makes it a better around-the-corner pulling tool too. With the pet faded, the mob comes straight for you, rather than beating on the pet as it runs back and gets hung up on geometry or pathing.

I don't know if they worked, but I sent a couple /feedback and bugreports in-game a while back...
