Can pets use no drop weapons and gear

Just curious, cause I have a couple of primals and other no drop goodies with nice procs and I've heard you can only give your pet droppable gear.  I've given him those haste belts from Sky as well as sort of a ghetto muzzle of mardu.

If you could give pets nodrop items, then the cleric summoned hammers would be the best pet weapons in the game, at least from the cost-effectiveness standpoint.  I have given my pets lots of nodrop crap from older expansions that would have otherwise rotten while exping, and she has never used any of it.

a while back thay made it so that if you give any NPC ( and this includes pets ) a no drop item thay will destroy it, it was useed to keep players
from giveing a uber nodrop item to a week mob and then havieng anohter toon kill said mob to get the loot.
